Yeah. I'd rather save that $ for that longshot of the team making the state playoffs. Taking the band to state three years in a row was amazing.

Not a whit. The local HS has the orchestra I can't provide for my 'cellist, and the area's children's chorus provides the choir I can't replicate at home. The dancer goes to ballet and tap classes, the singer to ballet and soccer. The younger one's friends from her dance class and soccer team are all in AWANA, so she goes there, too.

We have their friends over, and allow them to stay at their friends' houses when it's possible and appropriate. Just like public school folk. What we DON'T get is the constant peer pressure, clothing pressure, body image nonsense, mind-numbing cultural garbage used as the lingua franca (i.e. using crappy TV show lines as in-jokes, and such). My kids have cell phones and the older one is fixin' to start driving soon.

What could they possibly be missing out on that's a potential positive?

Homeschooling does have its great advantages. Its good that you chose to do so with your kids. I'd preferably prefer to be homeschooled but it would require hiring a teacher plus im almost out of highschool anyhow. Two more years.....

From what i've heard they can't really get those extra-curricular activities students that attend a school get. Plus i think there was something about applying for college and homeschooling but not being a teacher or homeschooled i think i should leave this question up to the pros(such as you :D)

Well, I answered the social aspect in a different post, but we work with a state-certified school counselor to make sure we're on-track for scholarship and college eligibility. My older child is in the community college's Running Start program, getting her diploma at the same time she'll receive her AA. So college isn't an issue, either. You just have to be on top of which forms to submit where and when. No biggie.

Massive spree? Compared to you, mate, I'm a gnat. Just because I went through the thread and replied to each of your screeds individually doesn't somehow make me either off topic or in excess of any reasonable number of posts.

Look for the Running Start program in your district paired with a local college. It's a good way to accelerate if that's what you want.

We were lucky to have the time, the desire and the patience. I will confess it's worked better for our first child than it is for our second, who's more socially attuned. We're considering a private school in order to continue the academic rigor while affording her the gaggle she craves without the vast majority of the subject matter we don't. It's a tough balance.

Good for them, I'm divided on homeschooling, while I'm glad about how it gives PERSONALIZED lessons for the "students" (Something that the good teachers would dream of doing) I don't like it when it's used by religious nuts to indoctrinate their children into being useless slaves of their parents.

I usually oppose home schooling, but that's usually to do more with the parents than the concept itself. You sound like you're doing it 'right'.

But I do hope you're not shielding her from certain things unnecessarily as many of the more protective parents are prone to do.

We're considering a private school in order to continue the academic rigor while affording her the gaggle she craves without the vast majority of the subject matter we don't. It's a tough balance.

I usually oppose home schooling, but that's usually to do more with the parents than the concept itself. You sound like you're doing it 'right'.

But I do hope you're not shielding her from certain things unnecessarily as many of the more protective parents are prone to do.

Hell no. She's seen everything from live birth (her sister's) to where meat REALLY comes from. Y'know, the stuff public schools are scared shitless to tell the truth about for fear of lawsuits and mass bad publicity.

Home sporting events, crazy teachers who everyone loves to complain about, batting down intellectually inferior classmates and then feeling smug about it. etc.

We attend WHL hockey games, minor league baseball and we've got Gonzaga just down the road (not very good this season, but hey). I am the teacher my kids love to complain about (bad cop to Mom's good cop), and if they can take the occasional withering glare from me, they've got all the education in batting down they'll ever need.

Next?

If so I completely agree.

I think thats pretty innapropriate. I personally don't want anybody to be banished from society based on their beliefs.

No, but you want people to die under this Natural Law you mentioned in "Cops are stupid" thread about 1-2 months ago.

Which is hardly an improvement.
