Yea, the instructor I got after the one that almost had the Mid-Air with was an awesome guy. He used to fly for US Airways as a regional jet, so he was fun. He helped me much better than the previous guy and it was him that I was finally able to get my PPL. I think I'll go back to him for my IFR training.

I don't understand all the difficulties placed along the road to a pilots licence. Flying is easy, there is much less to hit in the sky. Just avoid the hard bit at the bottom and the really soft bit at the top and you're golden.

See, that's just wrong. Flying isn't just a business - it's fun! And there's very little that's more rewarding than to share that fun with someone else, and teach them to enjoy it as much as you do. Even instrument training can be fun (although it's not as fun as flying VFR, in my opinion). There's a lot more bookwork, but there's nothing like shooting an ILS down to minimums and knowing you're only 200 feet above the ground when suddenly the approach lights come into view.

I was told they do in the UK unless you fly a certain number of hours per year and keep your medical up to date. I didn't pay for it in the first place so I'll be quite pleased if it's still active.

If JAA modeled your licensing system after ours, though, the licenses never actually expire. You may be out of currency, and your medical out of date, and you can't fly until you're current with an updated medical, but it doesn't actually expire.

I can do accelerated spins, flat spins, crossover spins, inverted spins... basically I can make that aircraft seemingly more out of control than you can possibly imagine. Interestingly, on a crossover spin, I can make the aircraft spin to the left, and trick your kinesthetic sense into thinking you're spinning to the right, or vice versa. Interestingly, my instructor put me into a spin to the left on a cloudless day with unlimited visibility, and I was not immediately sure which direction I was spinning. Then, he taught me the trick.

My experience in planes is fairly limited, Bulldog, Grob Tutor, Cessna 152, Tornado GR4, things like that.

My aircraft recognition is slightly better but not for civilian craft.
