What do you think of the college Greek system? Roll Call!

Postby Intestinal fluids » Sun Jul 19, 2009 4:50 pm

<--- Theta Chi class of 90

I had the best time of my life in a fraternity. In the 80s rules on alcohol and hazing were more relaxedand Nothing and i mean NOTHING for the rest of your long life, ever tops having 250 drunk women in your basement every weekend or doing crazy shit like breaking into Pikes house during winter break and breaking water pipes in basement and making a nice ice skating rink for them because they were assholes ;) (Statute of Limitations is long past) Good times.

The fact that my college banned fraternities a few decades before I went there was one of its major selling points for me.

I've never really wanted to be part of the whole thing. I mean, I support getting drunk now and then at college, smoking, and having fun but the whole fraternity thing. Seems so cultish, elitist, just not me. Also I'm not a very social person, don't think I would fit well in there.

I think fraternities and sororities are lame.

They throw really good parties, with copious amounts of alcohol.

Gravlen: If I can blame you? Of course I can! I mean, you're like a walking cathalyst for homosexuality, driving otherwise straight men to write haikus about your ass hair...

So it's a wonder that your presence alone in any thread don't derail them and lead to debates about world leaders and homoerotic desires.

Best years of my life and it only gets better when you graduate. Still see some of my pledge brothers and the younger guys on the regular as the school I am getting my JD from is only 30 mins away from where I got my undergraduate degree.

Fraternities are kind of like members only clubs where you get to to have stupid fun without consequence as long as you maintain a basic framework of sense. I approve of this.

Part of the conditions for my scholarship stipulated that I couldn't join a frat...so, yeah.

Same here. I've spoken to fratboy fuck-ups from other colleges, and I'm quite confident that I made the right decision. Fraternities are elitist, obnoxious, and largely populated by Neanderthals who's vocabulary is limited to monosyllables like, "bro," "fuck," "beer," "weed," and "tits."

If you think about it, if your in a University that has an established Greek system, then by the very fact that your a member of that School means your wealthy, smart or both, and this already makes you an elitist and in a cult in a way. So whats the difference at that point ?

Fraternities and frat boys are pretty much ridiculous.

Good thing the experiment around here didn't last long. If I ever adopt sons or daughters, I'd try to put them in a place where sororities and fraternities are banned.

It seems like there are too many rules and expectations, I get bad vibes from that sort of thing, doesn't seem like the sort of thing where you can just be yourself, it seems like you HAVE to fit a certain mould. That sort of thing is not so popular in the UK though, thankfully.

Rent a friend, join a frat.

In all seriousness though frats aren't that great at A&M. Best party crowd is the Bonfire group, and it's not like you would join a frat for academics (well, I wouldn't at least).
