I learned that card shops stock now stock practically no cards except for the next big calendar event, filling the other half of the shop with gifts for that event at the expense of anything for such insignificant things as birthdays. I also learned that running around doing searching across multiple shops for things that should be in the first shop I look in makes me really grouchy.

2 hours out of my day, just to get a bloody card.

People tend to forgive you if there is an acceptable amount of money instead of the card.
