Footballers Accused of Smuggling
Leaked CIA document links Shaktar Donesk with Cali Cartel
A leaked CIA document has sensationally linked Ukrainian Premier League side Shaktar Donesk with Colombian drug smugglers the Cali Cartel.
The document accuses several of the UEFA Europa League holders players of buying former USSR weapons and supplying them to the Cartel.
It claims that the unnamed players used the club's acclimatisation trip to South Africa last week to buy large quantities of uncut diamonds that were in turn used to buy weapons left over from Soviet rule.
It is alleged that the weapons, mainly small arms, were then shipped to the carribbean and then taken by light aircraft to Cartel bases inside Colombia.
A spokesman for the club dismissed the claim as "ludacrous", while the Ukrainian President has lodged a complaint agianst the CIA in Washington.
A CIA statement said they were investigating the source of the leak.
