Look on the bright side because we elected the GOP to the house we have avoided Civil war, provided we get rid of mandatory insurance.

Actually, Obama may win in 2012. If you look at the past, FDR, Eisenhower, Bill Clinton all won their reelection when their party lost control of Congress.

Wrong! Democratic Republics work just fine when only the tax paying property owners are allowed to vote. If you don't pay taxes you should not vote.

I fear our two languages may be growing further apart, coz a cop-out isn't a ludicrous supposition here, it's more a way to get out of something. And eh "nobody ought to vote, obv." isn't really that :p

annnnd... Godwinn'd.

America is not 1920's Germany. 1920's Germany had a democratic government, but not a democratic tradition. It had only been a nation for fifty-ish years. Before WWI, it was an empire. America has no such imperial antecedents unless you count the period before the war, and that was 230+ years ago. Hitler could do things with Germany's tradition and psyche that are almost certainly not possible in America.

Last I checked you could vote in the German Empire that was part of the problem within the Empire. Hence why the SPD was one of the biggest parties in the Reichstag so I am rather confused as to what you are on about.
