Work-out music to try?

Postby Hammurab » Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:04 pm

I know different things work for different people, but I'd like to hear some international recommendations on music to listen to lifting weights in the gym.

I don't personally prefer metal or hip hop, but I'm open to suprises.

I work out for about an hour and fifteen minutes with earpods.

Oh, and, um, Obama is a...um...an unrepentant philatelist. Or something.

"Never be deceived that the rich will permit you to vote away their wealth." - Lucy Parsons
Socialism is an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy. "Social ownership" may refer to cooperative enterprises, common ownership, state ownership, citizen ownership of equity, or any combination of these. There are many varieties of socialism and there is no single definition encapsulating all of them. They differ in the type of social ownership they advocate, the degree to which they rely on markets or planning, how management is to be organised within productive institutions, and the role of the state in constructing socialism.

I think that This Morn' Omina (that's the band name) would be pretty good to work out to (an example).

Or Elvis Costello's Pump It Up.

There's definitely other stuff, I'm just not thinking of it offhand.

Belgian industrial stuff starts out slow, but picks up.

I'll have to look up the Costello one. Off the top of your head, s'not bad.

Anything by Noisia/(Pre-2008 pointless dubstep changeover) Black Sun Empire is great gym music due to its excellent flow and progression / regression which kind of suits working out nicely.

Here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnVo--aJXao

Oh and don't privatise Royal Mail ffs.

I'm not sure what sort of music would be good for lifting weights, having never lifted weights myself and therefore having no real idea what sort of tempo would properly match up with your movements. (I would say I have the upper body strength of a small child, but honestly, most small children probably have more in the way of arm muscles than I do.)

For cardio-type exercise, though, I'm a big fan of random shitty Latin dance music. Ooh, or Gogol Bordello. Both guaranteed to make you shake your tush whether you want to or not.

I listen to anything from Hip-Hop (Akon, Usher, Lady GaGa) to rock (Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Kiss, AC/DC) to whatever else. If you really want I could TG you a great mix.

Well. I know a lot of people who work at the Gym, or whatnot, and club musics, especially hardcore techno, work. I myself am a fan of all DnB/Club music so I know a lot of these tracks. Something with a fast tempo will probably get your pumping and ready for a workout.

Coincidentally, I'm listening to this, which could probably work really well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydawzmFL ... re=related

Most songs by these ones are pretty epic for running, weights ect.

you don't need to listen to a specific type of music when you exercise any more than you need to wear a power ranger costume.
