Dunno,... it's a kind of magic. (Maaaaagic...) Ah ah, it's magic!

It is. I am Catholic and, I know this will sound heretical of me to the more devout, I've never seen the Eucharist as Transubstantiation. I never see it as the transformed body and blood of Jesus. To me it's a rather taste neutral, round piece of flat bread. :?

Scientifically that is what it is, the Church recognises that, and nobody will seriously dispute that. So it isn't cannibalism/necrophagia/whatever.

However, I personally think it becomes Jesus' body in bread form, and his blood in wine form. Just as Jesus is God in human form.

Indeed. As someone who used to be a Catholic but transferred to being a Baptist (long story) I know what you mean. I view communion as a symbol of unity within the church, and as a symbolic acknowledgement of the new covenant ("Do this in memory of me").

Anathema! Anathema! ;)

Really, I know it's difficult to be both Catholic and rational - and you have all my respect for that.
I see the same all the time with my fiancee. She started as Catholic but nowadays she cannot bring herself to accept completely the Catholic dogmata - so she defines herself as Christian, more generically.

Em, I think you misunderstood my point, Angleter. When I say I don't see the Transubstantiation, I don't mean it as me believing in it being cannibalism or necrophagia. Far from it. I know of it's symbolism, but I have never believed, as some Catholics do, that it is an actual transformation of the body and blood of Christ. My grandmother is one such Catholic, she believes that the Eucharist is the actual blood and body of Jesus.

You know, I think I identify as Catholic because of tradition. Nothing more nothing less. I haven't stepped inside a church in years, to actually listen to Mass, let alone have Confession.

Right. My point was that it is just as errant in relation to Vatican teaching to suggest that the Eucharist is scientifically a lump of flesh and a cup of blood as it is to suggest that it is merely symbolically Jesus' body and blood. It's more somewhere in the middle, whereby- as I said- the bread becomes Jesus' body in bread form and the wine his blood in wine form.

How about they just loosen up a bit and retcon christianity into saying that jesus is a bread elemental? :p

That would be quite hilarious. :p
The problem is that not many Christians would see the humor in that. They take their faith very seriously.

Does this mean he died in the toaster for our sins? And did they put St. Peter in upside down?

Gee, I don't know. I've met Christians who are capable of taking jokes. Same as I've met Muslim who can do that too, not to mention those who adhere to other denominations like Pagan.

Which is why I said most people take their faith seriously, Christian or not. Most people follow blindly, most people are ignorant of what they believe, most people can't take a knock against it. I'm able to say that I am not one of those people. Who's heard a good rabbi and a priest joke lately?

Uh... yeah. I think that would be a pretty big deal, alright. Especially for Terraius, who believes all of that homosexual salvation stuff.

Psst! I came across something....Jesus and John a couple?

Prove it, and I wouldn't recomend using the Bible since it has been discredited as an accurate source for historical information.
