Having once been stabbed and beaten for the crime of "Being White" while working in the wrong neighborhood I would probably say my opinion is biased (and I'm not just speculating, they made it perfectly clear why they stabbed me while they were they pummeling me. )

It seems that "Pride" in "Race" has the same polarizing effect on the people who use it, regardless of their position in society, and "Who started what now?"

It only perpetrates the endless cycle of hate.

There are extremists in every group, and race has no effect on whether or not someone is an asshole. But this is not the predominant view.

Except it's not about a cycle of hate. It's about not being dehumanized or marginalized. "Black pride" isn't about white people sucking, it's about black people not being ashamed of being black.

The hybrid Black/Indian/Caribbean culture that comprises my nonwhite heritage (and I use that term very loosely) thoroughly disgusts me. You might be able to convince me that varying degrees of "My group is better then Your group" exist, but that's only because I can witness it first hand.

It still serves to isolate groups from the whole, and enforce the notion that we are indeed different, despite being not different.

I won't cotton an ideology based on racial difference, regardless of who is spouting it, or what reason.

Feminism is about equality for all genders, and the NAACP aims for equality for all races. It's just that the names tend to come from the marginalized groups.

You can change your faith, your ideals, and your place of residence, but you are born with your race and stuck with it until the day you die. To take away this core aspect of identity from a person is one of the most terrible crimes one can commit aside from killing that person outright.

Oh, if somebody turned me brown, I'd sue - not because I deeply identify with my super-special whiteness, or because I think it makes me in any way, shape, or form superior, but because I'm conscious enough of my own privilege to recognize that being turned brown would significantly harm me. It's hard enough to get hired in this economy as it is without adding one more reason for idiots to discriminate against me. Turning brown shouldn't be a harm (at least assuming I turned a nice shade of brown that didn't clash with my hair or anything), but as long as there are people in the world like many of the posters in this thread, it will be.
