An interesting discussion started in the "Sports Your Team" thread about NASCAR and several people posted that they also watch F1. We did hijack the thread a bit with NASCAR talk, so I've decided to give Auto Racing it's own thread.
Anyways, I'm excited about The Chase, Jimmie Johnson won at Dover, which puts him in 2nd in the points behind Hamlin by 35 points. The next track is Kansas and I see Jimmie having a very good run at Kansas, maybe good enough to slide him on up to 1st in the points. Honestly, this is history we're witnessing here, it's very exciting.
However, I sometimes do wish NASCAR delt more with cars that you could buy off the showroom floor instead of cars that you can only buy if you have a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal. The make and model of the car USED to matter, but ever since the introduction of the COT (Car of Tomorrow), that aspect of it has gone away. Well it has been going away for awhile before the COT.
Which is why I like to visit my local track from time to time, I love to watch the Street Stock and Mini Stock race, mainly because these guys did buy a car and they did work on it in their own garage so that they could race it. They even have Stock FWD division (Hornet Racing) and those are always fun to watch.
NASCAR is good for seeing high performance and fast racing, however if you want to see what racing used to be about and what it should be about, then go visit your local track.
