I think that the Stephen King movies were generally low budget. The Shining was decent though if memory serves.

it depends on which version of "The Shining you are referring to. The first movie (1980) was crap, but the TV Mini-Series (1997) was pretty good.

The Stand was also done quite well.

"Carrie" wasn't bad, and "the Langoliers" was tolerable (crappy special effects, though). the rest, not really impressed with their adaptations.

"It" wasn't bad either, I guess.

The Disney Corporation has shown us that you can market any piece of crap as long as you put a dreamy lad on the cover. Twilight is just a successor to 90s boybands and the Jonas Brothers.

I've lived here in Georgia for 20 years, but I was born in Aberdeen (Grays Harbor? LOL) and raised in Shelton, and my Mom, Brothers and Nephews all still Live in the Puget Sound area.

I've considered moving up to that general area -- lots of mountains and hiking trails and such. The question is whether I'll like the Pacific Northwest as much in real life as I do in theory.

the economy sucks there too. and it still rains alot. Good fishing along the coast and in the Sound, though.

and the folk who live there are mostly loggers and fisherman and the like, not "sophisticated, erudite & enlightened" city folk. You know, real people. PNW rednecks, if I may say so.

Hmmm. I may have to test out the waters by starting out moving to a small city (such as, say, Seattle) in order to get used to the people there, before heading out to establish a homestead up in the mountains collecting and purifying my own rainwater and growing vegetables indoors and suchlike.

I think the twilight hate is hilaaarious. Really. Books wrote for prebuscents are never going to be works of great literature. Anyone who really expects it to be is quite mistaken. I've never read twilight before, and I'm not going to - I much prefer my fiction to be sci-fi and my vampires to be lestat, but I'm not stupid enough to think for a moment that everybody shares me views of what they like 'vampires' to be like. If they want them to be frakking dreamboats, all power to them, it'll only be a matter of time until someone slips them the toreador clanbook inbetween their reading. Until then, maybe a little variety is good. It's certainly not harming anybody, by the sounds of it.

If you want to move to the Peninsula, Seattle may not be the best starting point as they are basically "San Francisco North" while the rest of the State is still reasonably sane.

No, I have to say that with all due respect, I really hate this line.

Not anything that gets children interested in reading is good. The point is not just to help them develop reading skills, but to get them reading something that isn't inane drivel. At least that's what I thought.

Note that people's tastes in literature may be developed at an early age, and that it is inexcusable for teenagers to be reading garbage when they could be reading great fantasy like The Lord of the Rings, or great books from some other genre all together. Or, if LotR is too difficult for them, they could at least stick to Harry Potter levels of quality.

Note, I may be completely wrong about Twilight. I have never read it, and I never plan to. However, your argument is flawed, regardless of what book it applies to.
Then please, write something better and more popular! Please!!

I would agree with all the people who keep reminding everyone that vampires do not exist. It is kind of difficult to say how something should act like when it is not even real.

Also we should not be angry at Twilight and its fans we should just laugh at them behind their backs and be glad that they are at least reading. Unless they are just watching the movies in which case we should tell them to read.

Vampires do not sparkle in the sunlight, zombies are not friendly, werewolves eat people, and humans must either serve their undead masters or exterminate them.

Given that NYC is basically San Francisco turned up to 11 (complete with better and larger versions of almost everything Frisco has), it'll still be a step down. Although honestly I should base my first base of operations not on how large the city is but on whether there are jobs there.

True but the the readers are not being forced to read the books. Plus this is not some crazy difference like what you mentioned it is just a few sublte ones. I'm all for mythical creatures remaining consistant but is it really that bad if someone changes it around a bit.
