No idea. London's a shit-tip filled with easily exploitable graduates barely out of the countryside, and their erstwhile masters. Never been to New York.

just not my style of city.

I think I can agree with that. I need a yard for one, and I'm not nearly rich enough to afford it in NYC, I doubt London is any better though.

You can get a house with a yard for a decent price if you look in the right areas. I lived there as a student and had a house with a garden. Same with expenses. Sure places like Kensington, Chelsea, Victoria etc are going to be expensive but Hammersmith or Putney aren't so bad.

Well, the name "New" York already makes it subordinate to Yorkshire.....

If it weren't for cheap and delicious food, Chinatown would be my personal hell. But yeah, Manhattan is where I spend most of my time (still never been to Staten Island for more than 10 minutes), so maybe the other boroughs are better.

Probably true.

I'm fine without a yard. If I can afford to live in Boston, I'm sure I could swing NYC. I just prefer the smaller neighborhood style city

New York, considering I'm a New Yorker. Besides, I'd say New York has a lower crime rate.

Hmm... well the area where my family is settled is excessively clean and tidy (northern tip of the Cotswold), so I can tell the difference, but it really isn't unbearable.

Are we talking Cockney-skinheads or City bankers? I am far more likely to run into the latter, but to be honest I don't pay any attention to either. Nobody really pays any attention to anyone in London, unless you know them already. It kinda works (and as a virtue-ethicist, I take seriously the idea that part of the virtue of friendship is to keep yourself in social circles of friendly people. As a result, the people I come in contact with in London tend to be far friendlier than the ones I come in contact with at home).

Besides... this whole "people aren't friendly and communal" is sooo provincial :p

I've lived and worked within commuting distance of both at some point or another in my life.

And while I concede that I'm British (while noting that my brother, on the other hand, is a US citizen, and our parents live in the DC suburbs), I'd take London every time.

The following list is inevitably subjective, but...

The food is better (really; though equally, it's worse too - London is a city of food extremes); the museums are better; the public transport is better; the beer is better; the ease of access for travel to other countries is better; at the time of my NY experiences, the London crime rate was considerably lower; the cultural opportunities are better; the music - both classical and popular - is better (the Proms/Promenade concerts alone give London the edge on the former); the surrounding countryside is nicer; the British political environment suits me better.

New York has more neon and a better Chinatown. I only consider the latter to be genuinely noteworthy.

Aye... brute strength with no style is just the usual kind of ghey macho crap. The Bugatti on the other hand is a technical and engineering work of art.
