Obvious nonsense. The NHS does subsidise dental treatment (even if it's not free for working adults, it is still cheaper, and it is free for everyone else).

I don't really know, I never visited NY, but given my absolute disdain for the whole modernist sky-scraper nonsense, and dislike of American accents, I still think I'd prefer it. Oh and let's not forget grid city planning... ugh.

London: where there is no such thing as a straight road, and behind every other threatening-looking passage entrance from a main street lies a 400 years old pub. How does NY even compare?

Because it has straight streets and a grid layout, not to mention the nice modernist skyscrapers.

Apparently London's water sucks too.

It really doesn't........I drank it all the time when I was there, and I was fine. To be honest I think my hyper-responsive immune system probably helped me a bit, but still........

If anything the only time I was sick was when I had too much to drink in SOHO.......... ;)

I really don't get this whole thing about the water. The water is perfectly fiiine. Incidentally, the people who complain about the water tend to be the same individuals that would buy bottled water anyway, and would have absolutely no idea what the tap water was like to begin with.

Exactly, I think this is one of those myths about Britain (or 'England' as Americans refer to it (Seriously people, Britain and England are not one and the same thing!!)) that Americans come up with, similar to the 'bad teeth' myth....

I think obsession with what the water is like is a very American thing. I don't know if the guy who said it was British, but I've never heard any other Briton complain about the water before.
