Hardly. There are myriad reasons for the hate-filled to target Muslims, without any interference from Republican talking heads.

I'll rephrase my previous question. If this mosque controversy weren't going on at the moment, do you think Mr. Enright have slashed this man's throat? I don't think so. I'm not 100% or even 90% sure. But I can connect the dots and make a reasonable assumption, such as the one I laid out.

Mosque controversy =/= Beck, Limbaugh etc. As I recall it was some 9/11 families group that started this nonsense.

Opinions from the other side of the pond.

For what it's worth, the media in the UK are managing quite nicely to play into the hands of the racists too, ranting on about terror, the threat of terror and the like. Then they give air time to groups of racists such as the English Defence League or the British National Party. If the media would simply ignore these people they would, like most other idiots, simply get bored and find something else to do. For so long as they can be on TV, the internet or in a newspaper they will carry on stirring up trouble and this is true wherever you are from.

People are people. The use of religious tags is incredibly niave. Most muslims are NONE VIOLENT, following the words of their faith, in the same way that Christians are supposed to be, remember the commandments etc, thou shalt not kill ... what? You forgot about that one. It is only because it helps the media to sensationalise the issues still further that religion is cited across the globe.

If the leaders of ALL the faiths around the globe were to step forward and tell their followers that they DO NOT condone violence in any form, as it is against their god then the terrorists would lose almost all their support because they would no longer be able to hide behind religion. Enough said I think ...
Its right to fight for what you want, for what you believe. Its right to fight for what you want, to live the way you please. As long as you have done your best then no one can do more, and life, and love, and happiness are well worth fighting for.

Wow, I actually agree with Ifreann...

This is a horrible assumption with no backing whatsoever.

People are responsible for their own actions. Period.

I actually can not stomach Beck and I have quite a bit of hatred for Limbaugh. They are both talking heads who would shock me if they actually believed half the things they said.

Ergo, murders can be linked to video games if we assume the perpetrator played violent video games. Just as we can assume that acts of violence can be linked to certain spheres of the media if we assume the perpetrator was in their audience.

I love watching Steven Colbert as much as most people do. I also understand that his show is satire. There are actually people who do not know Colbert is satire. I am not saying you are one of those people. Just be careful when you use someone known for satire to prove a point you believe is valid.

He may in fact jsut be crazy, god knows New York has plenty of those.

And who encouraged him? Beck. Limbaugh. Those bigoted assholes. I think I'm right to blame them for this attack.

I think you're wrong. No connecton whatsoever has been shown to exist so far between them or other media pundits and the attacker.

An assumption, as I suspected.

A logical one.

Indeed, that could a contributing factor, but we cannot play the what-if game here and say that he wouldn't do it if the mosque controversy did not exist.

And, as much as Beck and Limbaugh may say outrageous things, I have yet to hear them call for the stabbing of random Muslim Americans. To place the burden of guilt upon Beck and Limbaugh requires proof, and, from the article you have presented, all I can tell is that the suspect is a nutjob.

If you actually read my posts, you'll notice I don't blame his actions on just two talking heads.

No thanks.

While I agree that violent video games don't lead to violent crime, I do believe they lead to a drop in the value of human life in the more impressionable players. Kind of like in this case...

Like another poster said...until I hear "the media" start telling people to start shooting or stabbing Muslims...long story short, I will continue to let you live in your world while I live in the real world. Your stance is ludicrous.

Watch the clip I posted.

I love watching Steven Colbert as much as most people do. I also understand that his show is satire. There are actually people who do not know Colbert is satire. I am not saying you are one of those people. Just be careful when you use someone known for satire to prove a point you believe is valid.

Since when was satire a less valid source of valid points?

Besides...I see nothing there that shows "the media" telling people to kill muslims. Plain and simple, you can not blame the media for some idiot going on a slasher party.

I agree that the mosque probably had a bit to do with this situation. Some people seem to think the big bad media is brainwashing Americans into killing Muslims. I knew there was a reason that I did not watch Fox or CNN...oh wait, its because I hate watching talking heads spew BS. Glad I am safe from the evil media or else they may brainwash me into being gay or something. (This is why satire should not be used to prove a point btw)
