It's a shame that people were hated so much that they were killed. Period. I think that the Holocaust has deffinately left us a black mark in history.

5 million jews killed leaves a bigger black mark than all of the other mass murders, genocides, population transfered all throughout history?

It's just because it's so recent. It'll fade with history eventually, like other genocides did.

I would just think Stalin and Maos combined 60 million + would have left a bigger black mark

No one cares about them, though. After all, everyone knows that Stalin was our friend, he fought the Nazis. He couldn't have possibly been evil.

a few thoughts:

1. Black, white, purple, or green? To heck with purple people - unless they're choking, then you save 'em. - Mitch Hedberg

2. i think that whoever has suffered the most actually does win (yes, it is a competition). congrats to the winner (read 'most hated')

3. seriously though - without trying to go off on a tangent, we have yet to discuss (at least, I don't recall seeing this issue) how pain is measured. take the same weapon and injure any two individuals in the same way, and the results will be different. one will have a higher sensitivity to the immediate pain, one will heal faster, one will adapt better to any long-term effects of the injury, one will feel PTSD more intensely, etc.

i suppose i digress, as the topic was meant to discuss the victims of perpetrators rather than the reaction of the victims . . .

let me put it this way then:

we have yet to discuss how hatred/discrimination is measured (again, sorry if I missed this over the last dozen pages). does one beheading equal three empty threats? how can we know?

since there does not seem to be any viable way of measuring the key component to this discussion, I suggest that it is irrelevant. perhaps we could just leave it at this:

This topic is a fun one isn't it?
So many patriotic examples of one culture crushing another, it's hard to think where to begin.

Then I was thinking more of Western Europe, for example how celtic languages survive on the fringe of the continent, how England turned it's back during the irish potato famine, the discrimination faced by Irish immigrants in America, etc. Germans weren't favoured by the rest of the world for obvious reasons. Jews are an ongoing joke in my "celebrate diversity" college. (It would be fine if they didn't tell us to celebrate people's differences and just accept them instead.)

Africa is an obvious example, and continues to be an example unto itself. (For example, body parts are free there.) There are examples of china, vietnam, poland, etc who've lost more than 1/10th of their total population in wars before. Then there are countless languages and cultures which have been out-right exterminated. Pagans have had it pretty rough when their gods were clearly superior (come on, you don't see the Christian 'God' depicted with an Axe very often).

Last on my list are animals. We might be good at killing other humans, but if there's one thing we excel at it's wiping out other species. Also, killing and consuming billions of them. Sentience aside, they have as much evolutionary history as us and as much right to live. My general view is humans are ugly and should be genetically modified to look like lolcats, whom everybody reveres.

EDIT: Ohh, the genes that affect melanin content probably don't affect brain efficiency or moral standards. Because I am fair in this matter, I shall leave all skin tones in the burning wreckage. I suppose if I were to pick a master race, I'd go for somewhere round the east, as they have a tendency to invent everything like farming, and wheelbarrows, and gunpowder, and reach medieval technology while europe is still in the dark ages. But I never really entertain that thought because all peoples seem equally stupid in their own right

Maybe that's where holocaust denial rooted from, that lots of groups of people were victimized, while the Jews tried to make it all about themselves.
