I was just using it as an example that, given the circumstances, sometimes people need to think more. Just like if a woman harasses her husband for years on end and then he slaps her, she deserves it. It's not right to hit anyone, but sometimes the situation calls for action and not words. Sometimes being PC can get in the way of logical judgment of a situation.

To put it in the same terms as your example, the other day I went to a Giants game and a man with a prosthesis sat in front of me. As soon as I noticed I stopped looking, not in a pointed way, just in a "okay, moving along and being respectful" way, because I sure wouldn't want someone to stare at me like a freak. Later on, however, the game got exciting, and the man proceeded to unstrap his prosthetic leg, turn it upside down, and wave it in the air in rhythm with the "Let's Go Gi-ants" chants. I feel that this behavior merited staring, if for no other reason than that he was blocking my view of some of the game.

Though for what it's worth, dressing all tantalizingly and then dismissing concerns about how guys may feel about it with the "I don't have to justify how I dress" mantra does seem to reflect negatively on the level of morality and/or thoughtfullness of girls who do so...

The objection I have to the second sentence (and, to some extent, to what Ry said above) is that "dressing tantalizingly" often looks precisely the same as "dressing comfortably."

For instance, I like wearing shorts and tank tops in summer, because it's hot out and I live in a fucking swamp (stupid DC weather). I don't wear "revealing clothing" because I want attention, I wear it because it's a fuckton more comfortable than covering up. But because I am female, my choice of clothing will ALWAYS be perceived as part of a display, and as a reflection of how much attention I want to get. Women are supposed to choose how we dress based on how we want (heterosexual male) people to respond to us, so that's how our choices get interpreted.

Personally, I think it's stupid to assume that somebody has dressed a certain way because they want your attention. Feel free to ASK them if you are curious, but never assume that anybody picked out their wardrobe because they want you to stare at them.

As pointed out before, if everyone decided to walk around naked that still wouldn't be a decision to risk being raped - in addition to the fact that rape rarely correlates to the clothing someone wears, it really makes a mockery of the idea that anyone invites anything in that choice.

People fantasize about nuns, one could possibly argue it's the perception of lack of availability that fuels a desire to go beyond the confines of consent.

Of course it's not okay. But I think people have to take responsiblity for whaat they wear and how they act. True, but even in the last 100 years, if a woman said she was raped, the rapist would be punished, not her. The days where women were expressly responsible for any sexual act committed were supposed to have been over 200 years ago.
