I'm glad this seems to be a fairly common phenomenon... Has anyone wondered about that "other you" you talk to... How close are we all to cognitive dissonance? Do people who lack this ability to talk to themselves have less of a grasp of self awareness, or are they less able to understand other points of view or their own actions?

I simply find it annoying. Same reason I don't read over my posts.

I don't know... at least no one like that has posted in the thread yet.

If I didn't talk to myself then I would freak out when under stress and not be able to keep anything straight in my head. So, I don't think I could bear to think of the habit as annoying.

Oh yeah, I have intense conversations with myself, often involving another fake person. I'll often get involved in an argument of some sort, come out victorious and feel awesome despite the fact it was myself debating myself and to lose would just be horribly fail. I usually come up with some awesome quotes which should have their own Wikipedia page...

I dislike the sensation of physically speaking, and find it to be unnecessarily vulgar, and me being me, I am one of the few (well, okay, maybe only) people that I am capable of direct telebrain communication with, so I exploit it for all it's worth.

Yeah, it keeps me from going crazy. I can't keep all my thoughts in, and sometimes it helps my process if I say it aloud.

We're not speaking at the moment. Perhaps, if I were not so selfish we could work it out. And don't I understand that the garbage won't take out itself? I just feel like I don't care anymore. Am I seeing another self? Is that what this is about? Just be honest with us. I think we deserve that much.

Oh, all the time. When I'm writing, I dialogue with myself/my characters, when I'm split on a decision, I'll argue with myself, when I'm bored, I'll start up conversations with myself.

All the time. Usually when my internal monologue gets interesting, since saying the words tends to bring them into tighter focus.

I am very careful not to allow this to happen when with others, since my internal monologue does spend a lot of time on the subject of how much it hates all humans and wishes they would all die horrible deaths. Fortunately I only rarely slip up
