I hate the idea of a mosque next to ground zero, that's like erecting a Nazi Pub next to Auschwitz. However, this is the United States and I have come to embrace the quote "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire so just as I would wish for a church to be built there, I can understand their side as well. Sometimes freedom pisses me off...but I'm glad to have it.

But how is this comparable? The Muslims erecting this center didn't cause or partake in the deaths on 9/11 (if anything, some may have been in the buildings/running into the buildings to save people). The terrorists who did attack the WTC no more represent these Muslims then the WBC represents Christianity or Nazis represent Germany. There's no link.

I still don't understand why people are arguing about this. If they have the right permits to build a building on private property, they have the right to build a mosque near Ground Zero. Even if you think building it near Ground Zero is a foolish decision, they still have the right to and nobody has the right to deny them permission. If someone wanted to build liquor stores next door to this mosque, that's their right to as well because we're a free country. If you truly love America and the freedom we stand for, you would support whatever people want to do with their private property, as long as it's legal.

Does it matter....it's the same Idea. Either way I have expressed that I support this by the fact that these Muslims are entitled to their rights as well.

It's because so many people are still terrified of the "Global Islamo-fascist world domination plan" they truly DO believe that these Muslims were "In on it".

I'm surprised they haven't accused this Mosque of directing the planes into the buildings or putting bombs in. I'm surprised Truthers haven't jumped on that.

Well, I wasn't aruging your agreement... I was aruging your comparing a Muslim community center near Ground Zero to a Nazi Pub next to Auschwitz. We know the Nazis (of the time) did many horrible things are Auschwitz. A Muslim center near Ground Zero is nothing like that, as these Muslims did nothing bad at ground zero, nor did most Muslims. And where did I use the word Fascist? How did we get to fascists?

I know what an analogy is.
I just prefer ones that actually make sense.

It would've made sense if you had compared Germans to Muslims, considering not every German was a Nazi.
Just like not every Muslim is a fundamentalist terrorist.

But hey, then it wouldn't be as effective of a scare tactic.

Nazism is a form of Fascism...the most extreme form, as Muslims Extremists are the Extreme form of Muslims.....are all Muslims and Fascists bad...no, but are extremists...yes. I used Nazi as an example, as people are obviously tender to the events that happened at ground zero, and the the typical stereotyping is that all Fascist's or Germans are Nazi's. Neither of which is true. Sure we all know not every Muslim or Fascist is bad, but placing building that reminds people of that history, near the place the event happened is offensive to the broad mass. However, like agreed on, here in the United States that is there right. Despite the fact it's like a slap in the face to those who care.

Wow... I didn't know that my conservative colleges in this country are so apt at saying that they support the constitution and then turning around to say that a religious group can't build on private property.

This is why I dislike the right-wing parties of the US. Because their professionial... *flam word*... who are as devious as they are cunning.

Except its not a slap... at least not for family members of people who lost family in 9/11 (no, I'm not saying all, but at least those under that organization, can't remember which). If reminding people of history is an insult, then we have the Vietnam Memorial, we have WW2 memorials... hell, we have flowers on the road side when people die in a car crash. The only reason people have a problem with this is because they attribute Islam with the terrorists, falsely. And so by extension, all Muslims are a threat.

By the way your fascist argument still doesn't make sense... it should be it'd be like building a fascist monument at Auschwitz... at least by your comparison, fascists are not the perpetrators, nor are all Muslims. Comparing the Muslim center to a Nazi pub is like comparing the perpetrator to the overall party, which implies that Muslims are the perpetrator. Your logic doesn't flow.

Theres actually no mosque at ground zero. Thus you'd need the "some blocks away church" etc....

As it happens there's already a thread within spitting distance of Ground Zero.
