Feburary 6 is now Ronald Reagan Day in California

Postby Jervak » Fri Jul 30, 2010 3:57 pm

CALIFORNIA- February 6th, 2011 will mark the late President Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday and now it will be an official day to remember in California.
Former First Lady Nancy Reagan joined California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in Simi Valley today for a ceremonial signing of a bill making February 6th “Ronald Reagan Day.“
The 89-year-old former first lady was balancing on a cane and the governor’s arm as she walked into the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
She smiled as Schwarzenegger signed a pair of bills one marking the yearly celebration of Reagan’s birthday in California and the other establishing a commission to plan Reagan centennial events.
Schwarzenegger told the audience, “Ronald Reagan is my hero.“

What an idiotic suggestion.

Ronald Reagan should be the fifth face on Mount Rushmore. Ronald Reagan today is a better President than the Kenyan Moslem can ever dream of being.

Meanwhile, those who would post such asinine posters aren't fit to shine Reagan's shoes, and will be forgotten the day they die, if anyone knows who they are now.

Yeah, but he also presided over one of the biggest economic expansions in US history and helped lay the foundation for the 1990's boom that would drive poverty and homelessness to their lowest rates ever. And, of course, that trade deficit stuff is complete nonsense...Reagan had no more to do with that than he did the destruction of the American auto industry. At the time too many of our manufacturers made shitty products and consequently lost hard to those who made superior products at better prices, although as always there were extraneous factors that affected this economic shift.

And, in regards to the USSR...he didn't raise spending to counter imaginary Soviet spending, he raised ours to match theirs. The Soviets had been outspending us on their armed forces since the end of the Vietnam war and were superior in both quality and quantity when he entered office; although it was unlikely they'd consider a war against us, it was crucial to our interests to bring about the end of the Soviet empire as quickly as possible and a new arms race would help achieve that end. Reagan's arms buildup did play a role, albeit not the decisive one (not that there was one anyways) in straining the Soviet system and bringing about the end of the Cold War, while his deregulation policies that produced the oil bust guaranteed two decades of inexpensive oil which dampened inflation and helped drive economic development around the world.

Reagan's legacy is a difficult one to assess because of the sheer number of converging factors in our nation at that point. For better or for worse, he laid the foundations for many of the issues that have characterized our country's political and economic climates over the past 30 years. He certainly had his flaws, but there are plenty of other presidents who possessed their own which were as bad or even worse than his.

Yeah, not a fan of his, but the economics part of that poster is silly.

The vanity and presumption of governing beyond the grave is the most ridiculous and insolent of all tyrannies. I'd rather have a Kenyan Muslim than a Russian Jew. Because that's what Reagan was, obviously.
