Calming Down

Postby Buffett and Colbert » Wed Jul 08, 2009 1:39 pm

What does the NationStates community do to calm themselves down? It's been a long, hard day, your on end and possibly twitchy, how do you guys try and relieve the pressure on yourselves? I either make my mind belief I am not stressed, angry, etc. or I chew gum. I can get through a damn good number of gum packages sometimes. Doing these things beats me blowing up at someone (not a nice sight to see).

My anger doesn't generally last that long. If it does I exercise.

If, as is so often the case, I am freaking out about my thesis, I generally go home and holler and wail at my poor boyfriend. He pats me and brings me beers until I feel well enough to play videogames, which we do until I'm all better.

Naw the only problem I had was early this morning when this guy was spamming/flaming/trolling. NSG doesn't piss me off that much. When it does I'm not angry for long.

At home, I'd make me a drink (JD & Pepsi), smoke a cigarette and just relax.

I just sit and think of what made me angry, compare them to previous instances of anger. And either calm down there or take my anger out in a game, BF2142 usually.

I don't get mad. Honestly I can probably count on one hand the times in my life I was actually mad or about to explode.

I don't generally get angry. When I do, it only lasts a few moments before I come to my senses.

In fact, the usual problem is that I'm too calm. If that happens, I do some exercise to get my blood pumping and serotonin flowing.

I go home, vegetate, perhaps have a little liquor (be it beer, wine, scotch/spirits, etc). and just relax, listen to whatever music I'm in the mood for.

Have a good beer, (notice I said "good", not watered down corporate crap like bud, miller, etc) maybe go through my coin collection, watch some Stargate, Farscape or Firefly, pretty much anything to get my thoughts away from whatever got me wound up to begin with.

If it's been a particularly stressful day, I clean like crazy. Pick up everything in my room, vacuum twice, dust, etc. When I've worn myself out with that, I take a nice hot shower or bath. After that, I eat chocolate and sip chai tea while either reading or watching a good film.

Beers and numismatist activities sounds like a great mix.

Going through my coins keeps me occupied when I need to be too.

I usually go home and turn off all the lights and drink a glass of wine or a cuppa. And then I just sit and refuse to think about anything stressful until I fall asleep. Singing to myself usually happens after the first five minutes of that.

I listen to hardcore music like Pantera, a little screaming along with the lyrics usually calms me down, 8)

If something really upsets me (which is rare), I tend to go on a drive for a bit and blast some music (either A Perfect Circle, Tool, Puscifer, or Lacuna Coil).

I never really liked Pantera but I did use them as an alarm clock for a time. Terrific alarm clock.

If I'm just upset or angry, music (blues, jazz, anything chilled, really) and introspection are usually enough to calm me down. If I'm pissed off, a workout and some sparring almost always chill me out. When that's not enough, I fish. Seriously, try to stay pissed off while there's a fishing pole and a Jaeger bomb in your hand.

I can't calm down. If I get stressed, its basically me screwed until the next day after I've had some sleep and thus a mood re-set.
