Funnily enough just the other day I visited my grandparents and my grandpa, who is building an addition to his house, complained about how lumber was of better quality when he initially built the house in the 60s.

Most good movies are old monster movies with bad plaots, with some guy and a few robots making fun of it.

New movies can be good, but 90% of the time a totally unnecessary sex scene is shoehorned in. It could be a movie about a pencil manufacturer and there'd be one.

I'm more concerned about radical Christianity than radical Islam, even though the second is much more violent.

Meh movies nowadays just get filled with gratuitous explosions and sex. I prefer movies made in Hollywood's glory days such as the '20s and '30s, along with movies in the 60s-80's when movies were more about plot than simply how realistic you can make your explosion. I feel too many moviemakers nowadays seem to think good CGI is a substitute for good plot.

Thats not to say good movies aren't being made nowadays, just that they tend to be low-key and not nearly as common as they used to be.

The special effects in The Ten Commandments always makes me laugh.
I generally prefer old movies though... I've got a soft spot for 80's movies.

Very few movies are good nowadays. Sad part is, a lot of Bollywood movies come up on my TV. They are absolutely awful.

I can't say i've ever considered looking forward to any films now, i just don't bother with em.

There are good films made it's just that they can be hard to find old and new alike.

Very much this...especially writing and acting.

I can't even stand most movies made prior to 1969. Even the classics just seem so stilted and forced.

I just recently rewatched The Man Who Knew Too Much, and while I am usually a Hitchcock fan, that movie just grated...I don't know if it was the writing itself, or the way it was delivered, but the only redeeming scene in that movie is the one where nobody talks!

Writers these days are much better at making the characters sound like real people in a real situation, rather than actors on a stage performing a play, which is really how most cinema feels to me prior to the 70's.

The acting has also gotten better...although that's hard to discern at times, mainly due to way most movies are filmed and edited these days.

EDIT: 1000 posts! :)

Yeah, exactly. A bunch of movies are like that. In my personal opinion, it ruins the whole movie...

Thing is, as we often forget, the only things that survive all these years are really good movies, no one remembers the bad movies of the Silver Screen, they aren't memorable, we remember the Classics, which is why we are nostalgic. 50 years from now, no one will remember Twilight (rather I hope they don't) but they will remember the very good films of the decade.

That said, that movie era was much better, but it was the perfect combination of scripts, talent and directors which made them so good.

All movies should by law be sequels of the Blues Brothers.
