Hollywood Has Lied Again! Western Vs Eastern Martial Arts

Hi NS. Recently, I watched the movie Fearless. It pissed me off and made me draw paralels between that and other shows and films (Deadliest Warrior sometimes comes to mind) that constsantly destroy the reputation of Western armed and unarmed martial arts in the eyes of the last few generations at the beheadst of Eastern martial arts. It makes even the most trained western knight and soldiers look like ill trained barbarians who think that brute force will beat through anything and wearing a massive amount of(usualy badly made) armor will save them. They are also usualy arrogant or tragicaly self doubting. This is opposed to the fast, discplened, and extremly (and apparently justifibly) confident warriors of the Far East. This goes the same for weapons of each faction: Western bastard swords and Eastern Katana, and the such, as well as armors.What have, you, NS, to say about this. (PS. This is not remotely a rascial thing, so don't try and bring it up)

I think Fearless wasn't so cruel about westerners as many western movies about orientals I have seen...

As a practitioner of WMA (Specifically 15th Century German Longsword) it really irritaits me when people think the East are the only people to develop a fighting style and that it is superior. Deadliest Warrior is just a joke in my eyes, they have no sceintific methods and ignore information (for example ignoring facts like on their first test using a flintlock pistol during the Pirate vs Knight, it MISFIRED but that didn't fit their data methods so it didn't matter).

The West has a huge martial herritage that is probably older than most Eastern forms and requires just as much skill as an Eastern Martial Art.

Then there are so many Myths floating about like:
"Swords are really heavy" if they are too heavy you can't fight with them, most longswords are around 3 pounds
"Armour must be too inflexable and difficult to move in" (for example having to be winched onto a horse) Again if it is too bulky and difficult you can't fight, a properly fitted suit of plate armour is lighter than the equipment most modern soldiers and fire fighters carry.

Anyway, WMA is worth studing by everyone. Study Rapier, Study Partisan, Study Longsword, Study Archery, Study Backsword. it's all good fun and arms you with good skills and knowledge

Less disciplined? Bullshit. It's discipline that is the reason why Europe conquered the globe and the three languages spoken in the most countries are English, Spanish and French. Asians are infamous for hit and run tactics, they'll shatter and break if you keep them pinned long enough. Asian armies failed against European armies once their mobility advantage was reduced.

I guess that would explain why Japanese armies were using massed formations of firearms before Europe.

I would also like to say that the Katana is a terrible weapon, and kendo is not swordfighting.

It certainly comes closer than any modern European fencing.

Well, yeah, the Samurai didn't use shields and their armor was hardened leather, you can imagine how protective that would be against Katanas or Broadswords.
