Kids of highschool and college age are often unhappy. They are starting to take note of injustices in the world, they start to learn to not trust authority, they start to learn that life is unfair and that it sucks. To top it all off, they are bored. Maybe there parents are to strict. Maybe they aren't good socially. It could be both.
They have an interest in the internet. They find there way onto 4chan. Keep in mind that they are mad at the world, and that they feel like the world is at the point of no return. Then a raid comes up. Why not? You get to have some fun seeing some rage. Who cares about anyones feelings getting hurt, it's happened to me lots of times, everyone deserves it. There's no bettering the world, let me watch it burn. Plus, I get to have some power. That is why people participate in raids.
I am also giulty of the above.

I've taken part in an unbelievably awesome freeform colony building RP on /tg/ that was illustrated by professional illustrator. It is probably the most fun I've had on the internet.
Plus, Chanology is pretty admirable

For what it's worth, I suppose there was something a bit presumptuous about claiming to know what participation in a site suggests about someone. Still though, what justification is there for participation in 4chan?
Unusual porn.

I would say that the site as a whole is most definitely Chaotic Neutral. Some pople act out of malice, others out of idealism, and so on the morality axis things tend to cancel out. The same thing could be said for the order axis, except for the fact that the site's very structure encourages chaos. Thus, Chaotic Neutral seems right on the mark for the site in its entirety (although not for individual users, necessarily).

Question is, what are people who act out of idealism doing on that site?
