"So you're some kind of Grammar Nazi?" "Yup! I just annexed Grammar Czechoslovakia and duped Grammar Neville Chamberlain, and now it's on to Grammar Poland and Grammar World Conquest!"

The term should be banned. It's insulting and offensive! Don't you know some of my family died in the Holocaust? You heartless bastards! I much prefer "Individual who is exceptionally sententious regarding the proper usage of syntax, spelling, grammar, and punctuation". Or its handy abbreviation IWIESRTPUOSSGAP. Much less offensive for all parties concerned!

I thought that being Grammer Nazis meant that they try and make you correct your spelling or word choices.

You'd be wrong. Grammar Nazis actually round up punctuation marks they don't like and send them to concentration camps while making speeches about how they are establishing "a thousand-year empire for semicolons".

You mean colons. Semicolons are a half breed and barely tolerated within the elite Grammar society.

Thanks Ted. You stay classy, San Diego. I'm Ron Burgundy, and remember kids, rim job safely.

Ron you can't say 'rim job' on television.

Why not? You can say rim and job, so putting them together couldnt make it worse.

Or George Carlin's example: on the radio, you can say "I pricked my finger, but not..." I don't know, actually. He was on the radio, so they bleeped it out. Hmm. I wonder what it was.

There is a place for colons in our society, but it is only a place; they do not rule supreme the way the semicolon does.

For semicolons are no half breed; they combine the forcefulness of the colon with the versatility of the comma, breeding a master race destined to rule the earth!

Actually, the concentration camps are for people that repeatedly violate the rules of grammar and need to study in peace.

Who said anything about Zyklon B? I was going to use helium. It's an oxygen displacer so you breathe normally and don't get the stress that carbon dioxide buildup or poisons cause.

Ok, I'm sticking a flag into this thread:

Image

I claim this thread for me!

Now, I may be a little bit of a grammar nazi, but I am by no means completely anal about it. If a person generally uses periods, question marks, and exclamation points where need be, I'll let it go if they screw up commas. If I harped on commas all the time, I'd never post anything useful around here. I try not to judge people too harshly. I'm well aware that my own grammar is not stellar, but people who come in and use no punctuation whatsoever bother me. I can't stand it.

Grammar Nazi is a perfectly accepted and PC term, as it stands for someone who does things a certain way (in this case, the correct way), and persecutes all those who don't do it that way. It's a play on The Soup Nazi.

I made this post just so I could post that flag.
