St. Malachy Prophecies

Postby Daynor » Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:07 am

I found this, and many other sources, the other day and I found it a little creepy. I normally find end of days prophecies to be rather stupid, but this one is very accurate.

St. Malachy was born in 1094, and died in 1148. He claimed to have the power of prophesy. In Rome, 1139, he claimed to have a vision showing every pope from his time to the end of the world. He described each one with a short phrase that has so far been fairly accurate. And now the creepy part, St. Malachy predicted there would only be 112 popes from his time to the end of the world, and so far, Pope Benedict XVI is the 111th.

Here is a clip from the article above; it's his description of the most recent 9 Popes, ending in the current pope Benedict XVI. (his description first which is translated to English, followed by the actual name and actions of that pope):
1. The Burning Fire. PIUS X. 1903-1914. This Pope showed a burning passion for spiritual renewal in the Church.

2. Religion Laid Waste. BENEDICT XV. 1914-1922. During this Pope's reign saw Communism move into Russia where religious life was laid waste, and World War I with the death of millions of Christians who were carnage in Flanders Field and elsewhere.

3. Unshaken Faith. PIUS XI. 1922-1939. This Pope faced tremendous pressure from fascist and sinister powers in Germany and Italy, but he was an outspoken critic of Communism and Fascism which enraged Hitler.

4. An Angelic Shepherd. PIUS XII. 1939-1958. This Pope had an affinity for the spiritual world and received visions which have not been made public. Peter Bander says Pius XII "has emerged as one of the great Popes of all time," and he "was in the truest sense of the word an Angelic Pastor to the flock..."

5. Pastor and Mariner. JOHN XXIII. 1958-1963. John was a pastor to the world, much beloved, and the Patriarch of Venice. The connection to "mariner" is thus remarkable.

6. Flower of Flowers. PAUL VI. 1963-1978. Paul's coat-of-arms depicts three fleurs-de-lis, corresponding to Malachay's prophecy. His coat of arms included three fleurs-de-lis (iris blossoms).

7. Of the Half Moon. JOHN PAUL I. 1978-1978. John Paul I was elected Pope on August 26, 1978, when there was a half moon. He reigned 33 days, that is, about one month, when he died, although many think he was murdered. He was the 109th Pope - is "De Medietate Lunae" (Of the Half Moon). The corresponding pope was John Paul I (1978-78), who was born in the diocese of Belluno (beautiful moon) and was baptized Albino Luciani (white light). He became pope on August 26, 1978, when the moon appeared exactly half full. It was in its waning phase. He died the following month, soon after an eclipse of the moon.

8. The Labor of the Son. JOHN PAUL II. 1978-2005. Pope John Paul II was the most traveled Pope in history. He circled the globe numerous times, preaching to huge audiences everywhere he went. He survived an assassination attempt. He has written a book which has enjoyed a large circulation. Like the sun which never ceases to labor and provides light daily, this Pope has been incessant. He was born on May 18, 1920. On that date in the morning there was a near total eclipse of the sun over Europe. Prophecy - The 110th Pope is "De Labore Solis" (Of the Solar Eclipse, or, From the Toil of the Sun). Like the sun he came out of the East (Poland).

9. The Glory of the Olive. The Order of St. Benedict has said this Pope will come from their order. It is interesting that Jesus gave his apocalyptic prophecy about the end of time from the Mount of Olives. This Pope will reign during the beginning of the tribulation Jesus spoke of. The 111th prophesy is "Gloria Olivae" (The Glory of the Olive). The Order of Saint Benedict has claimed that this pope will come from their ranks. Saint Benedict himself prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil.

Again, Pope Benedict XVI is the 111th Pope since Malachy made this prediction, and the 112th is supposedly the Pope who will reign as the world ends. Malachy's description of the 112th Pope is: "Petrus Romanus." (Peter of Rome).

What are your thoughts? Creeped out as I am? Do a little research yourself; it's a strange strange thing.

Ha! The joke's on him! I have it on good authority that Benedict XVI's successor will be from Milan. Some prophecy. *snerk*

It's amazing how easily prophecy can be interpreted to match current events. Did you know that people have been claiming fulfillment of prophecy regarding the end times at the end of every century? And people wonder why I consider faith to be more of a problem than a benefit.

Bah! You can find accuracies in ANY end of world prediction. So I believe a cool story bro, is necessary.

I find the prophecies very interesting and thought provoking, especially as a Christian (although not a Catholic). I've heard various things about the Peter Romanus prediction, including that the original contains no such person; I'll just wait and see more than anything.
Lancaster.
Duke of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Lancaster of Wessex

The Most High, Potent, and Noble Prince, Lancaster, By the Grace of God, Duke of Wessex, Protector of the Enclaved Pious Estates of The Church of Wessex, Lord of Saint Aldhelm Islands, Prince and Great Steward of Celtic Wessex, Keeper of the Great Seal of the Duchy and House of Lancaster of Wessex, Sovereign of the Most Ancient and Illustrious Order of the Gold Gryphon, etc.

This is totally subjective, you could say it for almost any body who becomes Pope. Of course he has a burning passion, he's spent most of his life serving the Church. 0-1

2. Religion Laid Waste. BENEDICT XV. 1914-1922. During this Pope's reign saw Communism move into Russia where religious life was laid waste, and World War I with the death of millions of Christians who were carnage in Flanders Field and elsewhere.

I could have been the Pope and that would have applied the exact same way. Mohammed could have been the Pope and that would have applied the exact same way. 0-2

3. Unshaken Faith. PIUS XI. 1922-1939. This Pope faced tremendous pressure from fascist and sinister powers in Germany and Italy, but he was an outspoken critic of Communism and Fascism which enraged Hitler.

As if the Pope would ever publicly show a crisis of faith. So this is meant to be accurate? Hah. 0-3

Hm , I think I can give Malachy that. 1-3

5. Pastor and Mariner. JOHN XXIII. 1958-1963. John was a pastor to the world, much beloved, and the Patriarch of Venice. The connection to "mariner" is thus remarkable.

Every Pope could be called the pastor of the world. The mariner bit...I'll call this one a tie. 1.5-3.5

6. Flower of Flowers. PAUL VI. 1963-1978. Paul's coat-of-arms depicts three fleurs-de-lis, corresponding to Malachay's prophecy. His coat of arms included three fleurs-de-lis (iris blossoms).

3 fleurs-de-lis = flower of flowers? Eh, no. 1.5-4.5

I suppose he can have that. 2.5-4.5

The labour of the Son or of the Sun? I suppose its the latter. For one, JPII wasn't incessant. Towards the end of his life he was about as active as you'd expect a sick old man to be. Further, Poland is not "the East". Japan or China is "the East". Denied. 2.5-5.5

What tribulation is beginning here? What fight against evil are the Olivetans leading the Catholic Church against? Yeah. No. 2.5 - 6.5

Again, Pope Benedict XVI is the 111th Pope since Malachy made this prediction, and the 112th is supposedly the Pope who will reign as the world ends. Malachy's description of the 112th Pope is: "Petrus Romanus." (Peter of Rome).

I guess we'll have to wait until Benedict pops his clogs for this one.

What are your thoughts? Creeped out as I am? Do a little research yourself; it's a strange strange thing.

Final Score: 2 accurate prophecies versus 6 inaccurate with one tie. Yeah, not creeped out.

Lies. St. Eulalia's Revelation to the Australians explicitly prophesizes that prophecies are completely, 100% accurate.

*sighs*

Don't buy into these prophecies. The same happens with those who believe Nostradamus has the ultimate truth in what's to happen to the world. If you buy into these prophecies, you won't be able to enjoy life.

Why do people worry about the world ending? I only worried about it after the Two Towers came out. What if the world ended before The Return of the King?
