The funny thing is that profanity has the opposite result unless it is truly creative. I recently watched "Night at the Museum" at least I think that was the title. It was the one with Ben Stiller and Robin Williams. Anyway, this grouchy old guy character stole the show by calling Ben Stiller's character "insulting names" like "Snack Shack". Had he called Ben Stiller's character "Asshole" it just would not have been cool.

I do not mind mild profanity but I do mind blasphemy.

Of course, they wanted beer. If they were Finns, they would drink anything that has alcohol in it. And, who says Finns can't be small and cute?

Because our society is crumbling and spiraling downhill into a debauched black hole of degeneracy from which there is no escape? This society is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions! What I mean is Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Don't be silly, that's impossible. Dogs and cats living together? Ha! I'm smarter than that, you can't fool me.

I suspect it's some sort of social drag coefficient.

The preceding sentence is the worst example of foul language that this thread has seen so far. What's next, you going to tell us you've never seen The Goonies or Raiders of the Lost Ark, either?

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery, my son. But we're still not going to let you in until you do the Truffle Shuffle.

Some of them were once perfectly acceptable English-language words (shit, for example), but with the Norman invasion and the importation of heavy Latin-based linguistic influence, the Latin-derived words became the norm and the Anglo-Saxon words fall out of favor.
