To supplement our current oil and food supplies, we should domesticate whales. We used whales for oil in the past, and because of the sheer size, they can feed many people. Instead of 9000 pounds of meat from a cow per animal, you are looking at literally tons of meat per animal in a whale, and plenty of fat to turn into various biofuels.

We probably can't do that, anymore than we can domesticate elephants, or giraffes, or hippos, or zebras, or any other similar species.

I'm in favor of this, more in the fact that we can alter the meat to make it much healthier--and probably tastier--to boot AND that it'll save enormous amounts of resources, as we won't be spending so much on animal upkeep.

Plus, if we play our cards right, we'd eliminate one of the main contributors to greenhouse gasses. Good news all around, really.

Bah, fuck the whales. They require massive amounts of food and space and they are notoriously difficult to breed in captivity.

I recommend people. First of all, we already have a pool of billions to harvest from. Second, every human we harvest not only can provide food and fuel for the rest, but eliminates one person to keep fed and warm. Finally, humans aren't as cute as whales and are therefore the natural replacement for cows. *nod*

For all the talk of whales being intelligent, I have seen no real effort on the part of the supposedly more intelligent species (humans) to bridge the gap and enable both species to work towards a common benefit. Not that I am an expert in the subject, but you'd think such a thing would make the news.
