ooh, ooh, remember when liberals wouldn't shut up about how bush refused to wear a flag pin 24/7?

Remember how they thought he was friends with terrorists?

that one got even better when columnists from one of the biggest and most respected (within the movement) liberal journals spent months writing articles attempting to show that bush's book was actually ghostwritten by his terrorist friends.

Remember way back in the last post, when you said to me: "just can't admit when you make a slight error, can you?"

And it turned out that you were actually making an error, because I hadn't said the original phrase?

Wouldn't it be ironic if your NEXT comment was "I made no error"?

Wouldn't it be doubly ironic if you HAD made an error, and I'D pointed it out to YOU, and then you had attacked me for never admitting my errors?

Ah, good times.

You 'corrected' someone for saying that liberals did so-and-so... by citing 'liberals'.

You, apparently, made the classic 'if it's Republican, it must be conservative' mistake.

Ah yes, I forgot that Bush betrayed America by bowing to the Saudi King.

Oh, and do you remember all the fuss about Bush's inexperience?

there are very few socialists in the US. what we consider "liberal" is "slightly more government involvement in creating a social safety net and in regulating big business". its not "make the masses live for the benefit of society"

Let's see: "Amercian socialism really isn't socialism... dosent Amercians on the left wing support the idea of the State helping all no matter what? If someone palys a negtive role in soicity the goverment won't care and will use recourses to help that person. That goes against the very idea of communsim... That is how real communsim is, it is not as great as Amercains make it seem..."

That certainly seems to suggest that you think America is somehow deeply mired in socialism, and maybe communist...

But, my favourite was this one: "When Amercia makes the same mistake Russia made I will try not to laugh... Even China was quick to learn that communism dose not work"

You certainly think America is CLOSE to falling into communism.

Well the first part kinda proves my point more than yours. I said Amercain comuunism/socialism I said is very far off from what it really is. They took them and fucked them up more than they were already.

The left-wing in Amercia that does want communsim is just dumb and are blind to the fact countries that already tried it were worse off after trying it. The Amercains who want a Amercain type of Communsim are just as dumb. It hardly is communsim. They put indivalus needs before the common good of the country as a whole.

I wasn't aware there was any major left-wing party within the US, and I wasn't aware that same party wanted communism.

compared to most of what passes itself off as "conservatism", "liberalism" is positive, absolute, genius.

whether the way either of these terms, is actually and most frequently used, means jack, is another question entirely.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

"economic freedom" is "the cake"

you know what's sad? we rattled off a page of such things without even trying - without even going back more than a year. we could probably do this all day. and i can't even think of more than a handful of equivalent instances on the other side.

Back in 2003, just before we invaded Iraq, George McGovern wrote a piece called "The Case For Liberalism" (that's where I got my little list, by the way). In it he quotes William F. Buckley:

Conservatism is the tacit acknowledgment that all that is finally important in human experience is behind us; that the crucial explorations have been undertaken, and that it is given to man to know what are the great truths that emerged from them. Whatever is to come cannot outweigh the importance to man of what has gone before.

I don't know how Buckley is viewed by the modern conservative movement, but I think this is quite appropriate. It does appear as if conservatives are the foot-draggers, the nay-sayers. I will admit that charging off into the wild blue wonder as some of my more enthusiastic liberal brothers and sisters are wont to do now and then, is not a good idea. On the other hand, neither is always resisting progress and change.

McGovern ends his essay with this:
The genius of American politics has always been the creative tension between our two great political philosophies, liberalism and conservatism. If either of these traditions is diminished, the American nation is diminished. And so, to the self-styled patriot with his bumper sticker "AMERICA, LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT", I would respond, "America, let us improve it so that we may love it the more."

I can think of no better statement of a liberal credo.

There are certainly intelligent, if ignorant on some fundamental points, liberals. Off the top of my head, Helen Thomas did a great job attacking the Obama Administration's utter and total lack of transparency and controlled situations; I consider her to be highly intelligent. I can't think of anything good to say about her, but SecState Clinton isn't stupid either.

But are we talking about liberals in general or the Obama Administration in particular? I thought it was the former.
