That may be necessary someday, but I don't think it's just yet. People aren't using the term midget in order to look down on them, or treat them as lesser people. It may get used that way sometimes, but almost any term can - even "little people." Just because the term "midget" it used doesn't mean they're getting the short end of the stick.

what's really sad is that alot of midgets look up to normal sized adults. even tho they are treated that way by those same adults.

Why not make them useful? Design tanks to be staffed by subcompact people, which minimize the crew volume to be protected, in favor of lower mass and higher performance.


Let's see what the full-sizers say when they're denied the chance to become a tanker because they're too bulky!

This is a pretty interesting exchange between Roger Ebert and Daniel Woodburn (an actor and little person) which explains about a little person's thoughts on the word "midget".

With regard to Midget I have coined a term on stage that eliminates its impact in much the same way African Americans and Blacks (which traditionally was not capitalized in the same way White was to describe race) have altered the word "nigger" to "Nigga." I have decided that dropping the "t" and changing the "e" to "a" to create Midga deflates the impact. So in closing I would just like to say to you Mr. Ebert -- "You my Midga."

Beats me. I read the correspondence between Ebert and the actor, and understood how people would be offended after years of "midget" being used in a joking manner. But I don't think simply asking people to stop saying "midget" is going to change things, it may well be in twenty years movies are making fun of "little people," and then that will be offensive. Something has to change besides the word itself.

Hey then call the Dwarves Dwarf and the Midgets Midgets. (there actually is a difference. Dwarves are probably angry at being called an incorrect term. So lets fix this problem by educating people. Dwarves are the small people with misshapen hands/feet/head (usually just large for their size) while Midgets are just small people of normal dimensions.

Dwarves carry a battleaxe that could split you in half (if that was possible with a human-strength cold weapon, it isn't), midgets don't.
