I think the problem is what's brought to light. Both radio and TV has promoted music for a long time now which doesn't really have any qualities at all. It's like all of it had to go through a machine to make sure that no thought or actual work was put into the making of what was to be accepted music.

I have to say, 98% of what's played on the radio nowadays is talentless garbage. I think the quality of music played on the radio went down in the early 2010s. I'm blaming that on autotune and a few other factors. But to find a good new song, it just takes time to look for it on SoundCloud or a website similar to that.

For example, if I were an aging country-western fan, Id probably lament the quality of the last couple of decades.
My tastes are so broad and inclusive, however, that whatever I deem "good" music for myself is blessed with a timelessness that allows me to enjoy it in perpetuity.
