Guiding: what/who/why?

Postby Nanatsu no Tsuki » Sat Jul 04, 2009 11:23 am

Introspection. The last few days have been of such. Today, maybe because I feel sick and maybe because as of late I'm listening more than answering, I became thoughtful and thought about something I never thought was important. I won't take long, I was just wondering NSG, what or who guides you? Why?

I've never thought about where my opinions come from. I guess they are a blend of my parents conservatism and NSG's liberalism. But there is also something deep down inside me that tells me what my opinions are. Problem is i've no idea where this voice came from.

Certainly your family, what you read, what you're told, those around you help you shape what guides you. Not only that, also your own convictions and your own sense of what's right and wrong are also guidelines to follow.

I'm not really sure where my sense of morality came from but I try to live my life in accordance with the golden rule.

Elsewhere I try to emulate the ideals set down by those such as the Fonz and Van Wilder in an effort to obtain "dudeness".

Right now, I'm guided a lot by my wife. I mean that in a serious, non-jokey way.
"My loathings are simple: stupidity, oppression, crime, cruelty, soft music."
- Vladimir Nabokov US (1899 - 1977)
Also, me.
“Man has such a predilection for systems and abstract deductions that he is ready to distort the truth intentionally, he is ready to deny the evidence of his senses only to justify his logic”
- Fyodor Dostoyevsky Russian Novelist and Writer, 1821-1881
"All Clock Faces Are Wrong." - Gene Ray, Prophet(?) http://www.timecube.com
A simplified maxim on the subject states "An atheist would say, 'I don't believe God exists'; an agnostic would say, 'I don't know whether or not God exists'; and an ignostic would say, 'I don't know what you mean when you say, "God exists" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignosticism

I would have to say I guide myself, based upon the result of life experiences combined with a lot of studies in various philosophies.

I would say my SO has become an important guiding presence in my life as of late. It's quite good to sit and discuss with him and compare notes. Sometimes his outlook changes, most times mine suffers a transformation. By no means do I think the same as him, but he does guides my intuition to better places. He makes me retire and think more deeply before proceeding.
