I'm not even OOCing this.

First, this is a roleplaying forum. News belongs in NS General.
Second, please check your grammar. It is atrocious. As far as I know, "grought" isn't a word.
Third, please find articles, etc.

A Proper Post Submitted to NS General:

Title: Lockport High School Explosion

Students at Lockport Township High School's Central Campus were sent home early today after a device exploded in the school, releasing smoke and possibly chemicals.

School officials and Lockport police continued investigating the incident this afternoon. No suspects were in custody for the incident, which injured at least 14 and sent some to the hospital for treatment.

Lockport Police Chief William Kendziora declined to say exactly how many students or staff were sent to the hospital, but said all of the injuries were non-life threatening.

"It's sad and scary that this is what our children have to deal with in this day and age," said Carolyn Niksich, whose freshman daughter, Alexa, was in the school when the device went off.

Before students were released at 11:30 a.m., Kendziora said he was confident there was no longer a threat to the school. Classes will resume at Lockport Township High School's Central Campus, 1222 South Jefferson, Tuesday. All after-school activities were canceled for today.

Niksich's daughter, like other students, downplayed the incident, saying she was not scared and that she was not concerned about returning to school Tuesday. Students said they spent the time during lockdown in their classrooms doing homework, playing games or talking to one another.

Kendziora said he would not classify the incident as a "prank," noting the injuries some students and staff suffered. He was unsure what was in the bottle and would not comment on whether more than one device was found in the school.

August Anderson, a freshman who was treated for injuries at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, said she heard a pop, like a balloon, and then saw the hallway become foggy. Anderson, who has asthma, was taken to the hospital after paramedics examined her at the school. Her mother, Brandy Juliano, said she had a rash or burns on part of her body, a hoarse voice and was having difficulty breathing when she was taken to the hospital.

Juliano criticized the school for its handling of the incident, saying that when her daughter initially complained of breathing difficulties, she was not allowed to see the school nurse. It wasn't until Juliano, who had been in contact with her daughter via text messaging, arrived at the school that her daughter was able to see the nurse and was taken to the hospital.

"I don't think the school handled it appropriately," Juliano said.

Other parents expressed similar sentiment, noting that their children were not allowed to use their cell phones to text or call them while the school was on lockdown for 3 ½ hours.

The school went to full lock-down, with students kept inside classrooms, after a plastic soda bottle apparently exploded at 7:42 a.m.

Some parents were less critical of the situation, saying the district handled the situation as best they could, but they still expressed concern that their students could not contact them via cell phone.

School officials said they followed lockdown procedures, which include prohibiting the use of cell phones in the school. Parents were alerted of the situation via an automated phone message and mass e-mail about 9 a.m., the soonest district officials could get information out to parents, said district spokeswoman Kim Brehn.

I was at the school when it happened. (whatever the second sentence said)

Any comments?

I didn't even notice what board this was on until North Wiedna pointed it out (it got moved from the Role Play section).

This would make a good base for an international incident.

Interesting. Just some retarded kid pulling a prank most likely though, I doubt there was malicious intent.

Why don't you tell us what happened, since you were there it's likely you'll have a little more to tell us.

OK. All that happened was that a bottle full of toxic gases went boom. 11 people were taken to the hospital, as far as I know, 8 of them have been released aready and the rest will soon follow. Scool is all cleaned up and [spoiler] will resume tomarrow.

No shit! Keeping an asthmatic kid who's having breathing difficulty away from medical treatment is seriously stupid.

That's the problem with following procedure to the letter. My own high school went through a period we called 'lockdown wednesday', where every wednesday for four weeks we had a lockdown. The first time was because some guys who looked menacing jumped the fence, then jumped right back over when a teacher saw them. The second was because some guys drove over the Mexican border near us with guns in their truck. I can't remember the third or fourth, as I don't think they were ever explained.

Either way, the first time our teacher wasn't too concerned. We sat in our desks and talked, since nobody had screamed and there hadn't been any gunshots. Plus the fact that if a guy was running around the school randomly murdering people, all he'd have to do was kick down random doors because EVERY classroom was full as a result of the lockdown. Durr to the hurr.

The second time, though, we all did the standard lockdown posture, which meant we lined up in a row and sat against the wall on the side of the classroom with the door being silent for half an hour. Because there were some guys with guns driving in our general direction from 50 miles away. Apparently one of the school 'security personnel' noticed that the light was on in our classroom the first time.

Frankly, it strikes me that if they REALLY wanted people to be secure, they'd tell them to pile the classroom desks against the door and assign somebody to stand in the blindspot just to the right of the door with the classroom fire extinguisher. Nothing says "Please don't shoot me" like ten pounds of metal and compressed Co2 to the head.

Either way, the point is basically that it's a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation. The people in charge could either get the kid help, and get in trouble for breaking proceedure, or deal with an angry parent. And generally, when faced with such a situation, most people take the path which requires the least action on their part. I'm not saying it's right, just that that's how people tend to act.

Just remembered, there was a bomb threat in bathroom last week that red, "Schools bombed wednesday".
Another bomb threat sent at school today via voicemail.

as someone who survived 4 years at that school, trust me, that kind of crap is normal for that school. I'll bet $20 that the football players were the first checked for injuries. you should see the seperate freshmen building. looks like a hundred-year-old cathedral. the gym ceiling looks like it could fall down any time. i'm glad to be outta there, and glad by sister will be out after this year!
