I don't understand why crap country like Honduras plays and not country like China or India who are better at soccer

It's not unknown criteria, you just don't know it.

Each continental/regional confederation is assigned a number of qualification spots depending on the strength of said confederation. Europe has by far the most because they have the strongest teams. Then each confed has it's own qualification tournament. Honduras succeeded in theirs (CONCACAF), while China and India failed in theirs (AFC).

Yes.

Unless of course it's not OK for a woman to ask for a female to ask for a female officer to carry out body checks. In which case, the answer would be no.

Soccer is a bit off-base, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it Un-American.

That's not even true. Chelsea won the final game of the PL season 8-0, and that clinched the trophy for them. How is that a bad thing?

He's confusing soccer with golf. Common mistake, given all the similarities between the sports.

Ohhhh!!! You're talking about Freedom Ball. No. That is a very American sport.

They're both usually played on Grass?

Although we had a minor league down here that played in sand.

Counter-intuitive, difficult to follow and annoyingly likely to end in a draw?

Considering the time period, I think it was invented to simulate the Hundred Years War.

I thought you kicked a ball in soccer? Now the point is to kick the other team? How did Italy lose to those pansies (no offense) in New Zealand then?

They didn't. It was a tie. Each team kicked the opposing team equally. You see, points are scored based on where you kick the opposing player. Shins are worth one point, knees two, thighs three, anything above the waist four, and genital region is worth five points. While the All Whites did not keep pace with the Azurri in quantity, they did make it up with well-placed kicks.

How is the sport un-American if they have a team that actually makes it to the World Cup?

It's not a genuine world championship unless only Good Honest Freedom-Loving American teams play. I mean really, how can you have teams from other countries in a world championship? It just doesn't make sense. Thus soccer is un-American.

Ah, is that why the World Series only has at most participants from two countries?

Yes, because other countries particpant in it and are better than them which makes football un-American.

No. I read that blurd in The Week and literally laughed out loud.

IIRC, the argument was that, in "soccer," a lot effort is expended in low scoring games -- as opposed to American sports where effort "is rewarded" by scoring. :palm:

Apparently, Glenn Beck and other right-wing nutjobs also have been scorning the World Cup because .... (as far as I can tell because the rest of the world likes it, so it must be bad). See, e.g., link, link.

Someone should tell these nimrods that, for example, the AYSO has existed since 1964 and currently has more than 650,000 players. The MLS and WPS are alive and attracting more fans everyday. There are milions upon millions of U.S. soccer fans. Last weekend's United States vs. England match attracted 17.1 million American viewers, making it the most-watched first-round game in the history of American World Cup telecasts, and beating the average 16.4 million viewers racked up by the first six games of the NBA finals. Etc, etc, etc.
I quit (again).

Anything that Stephan Colbert hates, we all must hate. Make sense?

Personally though, I don't have anything against soccer, I play it sometimes, but I don't really like it. Too simple of a sport.

And football is called football because America does not have to abide by any laws, not the laws of physics, not the Geneva Convention, and not any of those ten commandments the man with the beard made.

Now, I must go watch Blacksketball.

No, it's not... most American prefer men bashing into each other and cars going around a circuit at 200 miles an hour (or that's how I view it since I live in the southwest). I've been accused of being un-American because I'm a socialist, liberal, who plays tennis. Just because some rednecks think soccer is un-American, rednecks who can't play soccer for their lives, doesn't mean it is.
