Actually, I would speculate that the lack of frequent commercial breaks has a great deal to do with why football (aka soccer) isn't widely televised in the U.S., which directly impacts its popularity.
I quit (again).

Random tidbit of the day, it was the English who coined the word "Soccer" as a shortened version of "Association Football". They have since moved onto merely calling it football while America, Australia, and South Africa still call it soccer.

Americans are interested in soccer just as much as they are into hockey, just let the few think that they are good at it.

Judged in terms of character building, nothing is better than cricket. Persistence, talent, innovation and bloody-mindedness all earn their proper rewards, and one will always be led by a captain with a public school education.

Yes soccer is un-American. It was invented by Russian Communists to slowly make men more effeminate by riding America of its full contact sports which help to encourage butt smacking, communal showering, dropping the soap for the fun of it, and other activities that ensure the vitality of America's great men.

So therefore say no to European styled girly girl lifestyles and keep your masculinity men of America by continuing to smack each others postures for the good of America!

Because it tells you 'hey, it's not always about winning or losing'?
Please, it's way better than "american" rugby/football, where they teach you 'hit 'em as hard as you can kid'.

Football (not soccer as the americans call it) is not un-American, it may be unpopular only because of the tie-possibility, low-scores, and no breaks for commercials.

Abury wrote:Well in World cup not all countries play but only the 32 selected by unknown criteria

I don't understand why crap country like Honduras plays and not country like China or India who are better at football

You're ignorance is astonishing. Countries actually qualifies, and other nations also play for the championship.

Please, either stop watching football and stop complaining, or try to educate yourself.

Soccer, actually, was invented in England in the 1800s. Russian Communists did nothing with it until the USSR broke down and died in '92, so shut your mouth if you don't speak the facts and just hate "Russian Communists".

The 1950 World Cup, held in Brazil, was the first to include British participants. Hey, I'm only providing the source that the English haven't been involved from the beginning of the World Cup. I make no claims that it is more American, or less American. I'm from the States and I happen to like it better than American football, but that's beside the point.
