The New Metroid game.

Postby Conserative Morality » Fri Jul 03, 2009 9:42 am

Oh God... Am I the only Nintendo Fan feeling absolutely awful about working with Team Ninja on it? I've lost much of my faith with Nintendo with the 'Wii Motion Plus', and the repeated occurrences of Toon link. In a train. I have to say, I'm feeling very nervous about it. If this turns out to be as bad as I think it's going to be, this may be the death blow for my Nintendo Fanboyism. :p

So, Generalites, what are your thoughts on it? Nervous? Excited? Too soon to tell? Already cut Nintendo from your heart? :p

Meh, I thought Prime was boring as hell = Halo without the fun parts...

I dont expect much more than that out of it...

After Sega fell, my fanboy tendencies tend to go with Microsoft lately...

I never played Ninja Gaiden, but Dead or Alive has always been fun as hell...However, with Tomonobu Itagaki gone, Id expect he'll be taking the franchise elsewhere, and if he doesnt have the rights to it, itll likely be downhill from here...

This, except I don't think much of Halo either.

The democratically elected parliament requires a unanimous vote to actually pass legalisation and with proportional representation and the number of extremists in parliament this is near impossible.

So the monarchy effectively rules by decree. I have achieved this through answering issues in a certain way... Unfortunately I can’t remember what those issues were. That plus a little bit of RP. Anyway my point is it’s easy to have moderate to high political freedoms and still have absolute power, you just have to be creative.

Huh. That's a rather unique and, I must say, deliciously evil approach. *golfclap*

Metroid is one of my favorite series and the new Metroid: Other M looks like its going to go back to its roots but have action packed scenes in between probably triggered by a button or a quick time event. The only problem for me is that it may lose the puzzles Metroid is known for. But hey, Metroid with amazing cut scenes, actually any nintendo game with amazing cut scenes, is fine with me.

I loved Prime. Felt it was like Super Mario 64, bringing Metroid into a new era.

Well, I liked the trailed for Metroid: Other M. I notice there was a bit where Ridley is dragging Samus against a wall - just like the cut scene in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. For the record, I did like Prime. This one doesn't look like it'll have the same great atmosphere, but the action looks cool.

They claimed that giving Metroid Prime to that "Retro Studies" group was crazy.
They claimed that using that "Toon Link" was crazy.
They claimed that having the Wii be much weaker than the PS3 and X360 was crazy.

And yet...

The fact that they used him once shook my faith in Nintendo. Twice, made me waver. Now, this third time.. I have little faith left in them to create another good LOZ game, like OoT

It was good, yes. But, it was one out of four. Not a passing grade. :(

I think you're overreacting. The great Nintendo games have never really been frequent. Think of the Super Smash Bros. series. Only one game per console: N64, GC, Wii. Long waits, but they did happen.

SSB has always been alright. Never great.

I'm magnanimous enough to let that one slide...

Well, whatever games you like, the point is that the good ones don't come that often and Nintendo likes to put out filler in between.

Windwaker was one of the best games in the whole franchise, IMO, while Phantom Hourglass was a nifty handheld LoZ.

What's yer beef? Is it simply the graphical style? It can't be gameplay, for Windwaker is up there with OoT in terms of puzzles, etc.

Also: sailing! What's not to like?

Sailing: What's TO like?

I despise the graphical style.

I despised the story.

And as for gameplay, I hated the damned leaf platforming.

The great physics, the realism of the boat's movement, the quick changes in mood made by the changes in weather, the cinematic feel of the whole process.

Oh, and no fucking Navi.

I despise the graphical style.

I despised the story.

There's no accounting for taste, but fair nuff.

I warmed to the cell-shading very quickly, and think the game is gorgeous. Story-wise, I think it's pretty-neat, being a nice twist on the usual LoZ fare; I like the idea of Link's role changing somewhat to encompass a submerged Hyrule.

And as for gameplay, I hated the damned leaf platforming.

Meh.

I didn't like the Water Temple in LoZ, but that didn't spoil the game as a whole, and I certainly didn't 'lose faith' in Nintendo, or Miyamoto, because of it. Ultimately, there's 60-100 hours of the highest quality console gaming available in one round of Windwaker; nothing to sniff at.
