Remember swine 'flu?

Postby Waterlow » Thu Jul 02, 2009 7:08 pm

Dropped off the radar, or so it seemed to me. And then I read this article.

100,000 cases a day?

Shome mishtake, shurely? Or is this a cunning ploy by the government to introduce illiberal measures... no, I can't bring myself to don the tinfoil hat. Just how serious is this, though?

Mind you, could be useful for wangling time off work...

A mistake? Surely not. It's the flu, of course it's spreading quickly. It's just that nobody cares because we've finally accepted that it's not actually dangerous.

Meh, I hear the regular flu is deadlier...Besides, why do we need to hear of plagues when there are more important things out there, Michael Jackson's will is being sorted out!

And the Aporkalypse has fallen short of its earth-shattering psychic reading...

It's fairly obvious that it's not that dangerous (not sure the elderly would agree) but 100,000 cases a day? That's bonkers!

You may laugh, but Diana Ross and Michael's Mum have to wrestle two out of three falls for custody of the kids *nod*

And 100,000 cases a day is what you get for having socialized medecine. *nod*

Ahem ...

I heard this too, on the BBC World Service, and wondered about it. Still, I heard that the Aporkalypse could come oinking back to get us in the autumn when temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere fall. Influenza doesn't do well in summer. So, it could happen, I wouldn't dismiss it.

I can't wait for a real plague to come along. One where we laugh then start to die.

On the positive side, the Bubonic Plague of the 1300s did get us Boccaccio's Decameron. Of course, we wouldn't be around to read the modern equivalent, but it would be there anyway.

We should bear in mind, of course, that Labour don't have the greatest track record of getting their figures right...

While you're laughing, maybe. While you're dying, I doubt it.

What really worried officials in the first place was how contagious it was, and that it had the potential, however slight, to become deadly.

I still think the whole thing is ridiculous, regardless.

I think it's fairly obvious.

Swine flu is farming evo points to get moar deadly symptoms or trying to get to Madagascar.
