Help! My TV is on fire!

ZURICH (AP) — It must rank among the easiest fires ever to put out.

Zurich authorities say police and firefighters were called to the house of an elderly woman early Thursday after she reported her television set was burning.

When they arrived, they discovered no signs of fire or smoke.

They found instead that the TV was tuned into a German station that in the early morning hours aired the constant image of a fireplace.

"The fire was extinguished with the press of a button," police said in a statement.

Ok, how bad is it when you think your TV is on fire because there's a picture of a fire? How bad is your eyesight?

Anyone ever been freaked out by something on TV?
Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

How bad is your common sense? If her TV was actually on fire, the entire room would have gone up in flames by the time she finished making the phone call. :palm:

It's probably one of the most mistakable "screensaver" ever broadcast. It makes me think why would the TV station put on footage of a fireplace for so long...

Two words: Billy Fuccillo.
Admittedly not freaked out as much as very much annoyed.

Back in the day when I was a kid we had one of those console televisions with the really shiny screens......anywho, my dad was high and he thought there was a little girl in the screen like a ghost or something, only every time he turned around to look she wasn't there.....

I was hiding behind his chair of course when he turned around, then I would pop back out when he looked at the screen again.

Freaked out? No, but fooled, sometimes. Orkin ran an ad back in 2000 that featured a very life-like looking roach crawling around on the TV screen. An Orkin man ended the commercial by spraying it, but a number of viewers reportedly damaged their sets trying to kill the roach.

Then, of course, there are the doorbells and door knocks that fool our dogs...

Actually on of the channels on Pay-TV had this once, a fireplace looked nice.

You could buy the DVD of it for only $12.99 +P&H
You know you've made it on NSG when you have a whole thread created around what you said.

Mexican soaps freak me out. And when those corny opening themes come on, I feel like freaking out and screaming. I hate them.

There was a series of commericals by a nation wide exterminator company. it would be a regular commercial for some inane product (diswashing soap, line of jewery, etc...) when a Roach would walk across the screen. then an exterminator would 'poke' his head into the picture and 'kill' the roach.

the company got alot of complaints from viewers who threw things like shoes and such at the 'roach' thinking it was on THEIR side of the TV screen. infact, they got so much that their website dedicated a section where viewers could say what they did when they saw the 'roach'.

Thank got it wasn't an underwater image... the poor lady might've drowned.

Full house. *shivers* When I watched that show, I forgot how good I could have it if only I could leave that life behind. But it was so hard. After all, I was in 4th grade.
When I named myself Saint John's county, it was a joke amongst me and my friend. We both live there. If you wish to be formal, address me as The Armed Republic of Saint John, or ARSJ.
