Because it's so painfully easy to shit on furries, that's why. I'm partial towards them; I genuinely admire the creative talent some of the people in the community have, and I have met many furries who are some of the coolest people I have ever known, but again, their "niche" interests make them an easy target to harass and bully without consequence.

On another note, I personally believe that even now, hate for furries is just dwindling into effective silence, as it should be. Nobody should get harassed for just being themselves, unless them being themselves entails causing physical and mental harm to their peers.

Anyway, back on furries: I have never met one who identifies as an animal. This is another common misconception made about the community as a whole. Wearing a fursuit doesn't automatically mean you identify as the animal that suit represents.

I'd say (opinion, so no evidence) that 35% who are against just bandwagon the opinion of;
30% which are against because they find it "strange", with an additional 10% which find it "disgusting".

15% are against because of bad past experiences in online furry communities (for some reason they do tend to overlap with either Atomw--- type far-right extremists or Stalinist-tankie level of far-left extremists). These have the most justified reason but I believe they have a selection bias. The overlap probably covers less than 1/8 of all furries, I imagine.

Sure, whenever I see identity expression (national/stoner/feminist-by-aesthetic/tesco-lovers-club) in public I do think "that's a bit odd" myself, but I rarely dwell on it further than that.
As long as you're not coming to the same workplace as me with an "I love coffee" t-shirt and a Rastafari hoodie (examples), I don't care, doesn't effect me.
