I mean hell that's a normal story, the only reason France didn't end up a monarchy after the franco-prussian war is because the presumptive monarch was too monarchist even for the monarchist parliament of Thiers. Mfer singlehandly sunk monarchy in france because he wanted the surrender flag as the national one.
