Favourite Dead Language?

There are, sadly, far too many to fit in a poll.

My personal favourite is Newfoundland Irish.

Although on that topic Walloon isn't quite dead, but it's on its way out and always very confusing to hear because it sounds enough like french you feel you should understand it (as a french-speaker) but is different enough to be completely incomprehensible.

I have to say I do like some of the old english regional dialects, but more due to how you can see how they've evolved into modern dialects more than anything (apparently if you speak old english with a geordie accent, it's half way understandable by Newcastle natives)

I voted ancient Greek. It's beautiful and capable of putting a ton of nuances in just a short sentence.

Latin

I took 4 years of it only to come to college and have it be not acceptable for my major's language requirement.

I heard the Pope's latest encyclical is delayed because they're not sure how to translate terms like "credit crisis" into Latin.

I would think so as well. Though if they do manage to revive another Celtic language, I shall be very happy.

Efforts may be better spent keeping those on life support still alive, like Cornish. Still it would be nice from an academic point of view if Cumbrian could be revived somwhat, I have doubts it'd ever effectively enter common usage however.

You mean the exact same thing contemporary English did to Elizabethan English? And the same thing Early Modern did to Middle English? And so on?

Face it. Every language currently spoken is the bastard child of a previous generation.

If they depict a language that was actively spoken by the Taino, I'm sure they would count.
