Some police in Texas did taser a pastor. When he came to look at a traffic issue taking place in his Church.

I am becoming a bit conflicted. On one hand police are perhaps over using the taser but on the other it is one of the least harmful ways to subdue a suspect.

Obviously it's hard to ring in loud and clear, as both sides differ extremely on their story.

It seems, however, that a cop is more likely to be excessive than a pastor, especially in front of his congregants. What's more is that the cops story claimed that he attempted to arrest the pastor, but did not list a crime, which speaks of over-reaction even as far as arrest goes.

I think that probably the city will be found responsible for the officers unnecessary force (and it really sounds much closer to that, than the pastor's/congregations attempt to use force to remove the officer from... what? ticketing a fellow congregant?) and the pastor will receive some money fro the idiot officers macho self-image.

Apparently it's Taser becuase it's an acronym - though personally I suspect it was really a backronym based off, as you say laser. And the reason we say laser not lazer (or lazor) is kids? Yep, that's right, because that too is an acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation"

It is profoundly fucked up the way tasers have become so accepted as part of police procedure. Originally the taser was supposed to be used as an alternative to SHOOTING somebody. Now, police taze people for noncompliance. Fuck that noise.

On a related tangent, I was really nauseated by how Transformers 2 features a scene that makes light of tazing and plays it for laughs. That's a great way to help perpetuate the idea that being violently electrocuted is silly and funny and not at all a big deal. Which I'm sure it is, until the cops decide that you didn't hand over your registration fast enough, and you get to find out how silly it really feels.
