Are Bees Sexist?

Halloo NSG,

After studying bees for some time now, I have come to the invariable conclusion that they are sexist. Male bees, otherwise known as drones, are denied certain of their inalienable rights. First off, they are denied employment, and are forced to spend their afternoons wandering like vagabonds. Secondly, they don't have stingers and are therefore denied self defense.* Thirdly, they are treated as mere breeders by the females, and are kept around merely for reproductive purposes. Fourthly, every winter, the female bees evict the drones from the hive, and leave them to die of either cold or starvation. Meanwhile, the female bees have all the work they want, are capable of self defense serving in the armed forces, and have warm quarters and food in the winter. Surely this must be the result of systemic sexism in bee society. What are your thoughts NSG? Are bees sexist?

I'd quibble with the word self-defense.. maybe hive-defense, but a self-defense system that results in your guts hanging out and causing your death isn't particularly practical.

Not all bees have barbed stingers and not all bees live in colonies/hives. Also the barbed stingers usually only get stuck in animals with thick skins and not other insects. The self defense point holds.

Forget the bees.

Female anglerfish lure males to them to turn into parasitic sacs attached to them, female mantises slice off male's heads after mating, female spiders consume males after mating, and female hyenas do unmentionable things to their males.

Sounds great to me, who want to be flying around needlessly collecting pollen?

Secondly, they don't have stingers and are therefore denied self defense.

We kind of discussed this but, again, great, don't have to bother getting killed defending anything.

Thirdly, they are treated as mere breeders by the females, and are kept around merely for reproductive purposes.

Don't even have to pay child support.

Is this right, drones only live about 30 days anyway, though apparently some can make it to 55 days, but still, it's not like they're out for long.

Frankly being a male bee sounds like the life of Riley. Sit around doing nothing other than occasionally shagging a Queen.
