Actually the WA could be helpful for potential legal scholars/lawyers of our future. They would actually get to learn diplomacy and how laws actually get passed in an interactive way.

The games "Civilization" and "Tropico" are perhaps more suitable for learning. The problem is that:

1. In Nation States, resources and money are abundant, but in reality they are limited.
2. In Nation States, foreign enemies cannot invade the country, which means defense spending and diplomatic alliances can be as stupid as you like. In reality there is no such thing.
3. In Nation States, rebellious factions or masses cannot overthrow the government or sabotage its decisions. In reality, as well as in the games "Civilization" and "Tropico", the populace or disloyal military are capable of rioting.
4. In the Nation States there is no progressive, natural development of the scientific and technical basis. In reality, it exists, and we have to keep up with the scientific and technological development of neighboring powers.

These features are not so important for countries like the USA, Canada or Australia, which, due to their geographical location and history, are cut off from potential enemies by oceans and have a thriving economy. But for the countries of Eurasia, which had agrarian backwardness, a poor population and conflicts on the borders, these things are very important, and the game without taking them into account is not so educational.

However, Nation States can also teach a lot: what is the current list of problems for modern rulers, how to make the best choice from bad options, etc.

Ladies and gents, I have here the most philosophical (and probably the dumbest) question to ever be asked on this very forum. Should NationStates (or even NSG itself) become a part of the American public school system? Should NSG be mandatory reading and participation? Why or why not? We all know that we say dumb things (myself included), and I do think there is a lot of diversity and learning potential on this site. Everybody learns from one another, and kids would get to learn healthy debate without breaking into fisticuffs. Therefore, I think that NSG should be mandatory reading, and playing NS itself should be mandatory to help nurture kids' imaginations. I am not leaning either way for mandatory participation in NSG.
