Lies. When the serfs revolt, you will be put to the sword with the rest of the nobility.

Revolting as the peasantry is, why would we have an uprising?

The NHS, universal suffrage and free press are pretty counterrevolutionary.

In the UK you need a gun licence to possess weapons. Sadly, laws do get broken no matter how hard you try.

But gun control automticly prevents this things right? I mean isn't that the point of it?

There are always instances and occurrences that slip through the net. No system is perfect.

At which point they sit about on JSA feeling a bit scunnered.

Little more than a deception. Thomas Jefferson did the same thing when the Redcoats came looking for him, and see how well that worked?

I guess guns are more common in rural areas because they hunt deer and game birds.

Err I think they'd have to ring the queen and/or some of her pals up to hunt deer. Shooting rural pests like foxes, excess rabbits and the like is what farmers own guns for.

Back to the topic at hand...

12 confirmed dead, including as well as the gunman, around 25 injured. [edit]According to the latest police report on BBC R4.[/edit]

Derek Bird, the shooter, appears to have taken his own life. The police are currently at a loss as to whether this is a random spree or a premeditated act.

That's terrible. :(
It's scary how much damage just one person can do with a gun.

Presumably it's going to be some deranged person with a grudge like Hungerford and Dunblane.

Oh, well.

Latest reports from the police, again from BBC R4, say that Derek Bird had two firearms. He shot a number of work colleagues (he worked as a taxi driver) in Whitehaven, then travelled around 30 miles to the village of Boot, along the way shooting a number of people seemingly at random, before turning a weapon on himself.

Massive shame, but I think we can all be thankful that it has been so long since the last one.

I wonder when all the gloating Yanks will come on and harp on about how much better their nation is than everyone else's?

The last mass shooting the UK had was 13 years ago. The US appears to have one every couple of months.

Clearly one of those countries is doing something right.

We have a massive population. There is a big difference between the UK and US, more people are poor, we have more gangs and there are more criminals here. Guns have nothing to do with this, in fact, if guns were allowed there, someone may have killed that guy before he was able to kill anybody/too many people.

Two of the 25 people injured are in a "critical condition".

We have more people, and thus more crazies. I would rather hand out guns at the loony bin that surrender my right so self defense.

You have five times the number of people the UK has, and way more than five times the number of mass shootings.

As I said: clearly one of those countries is doing something right.
