Burnt toast probably counts as art too: Symbolizing the darkness and loss of family in the post-industrial society where parents must start their commute to work without having shared the morning meal or even kissed their family goodbye.....the trail of blackened crumbs representing our disconnection and isolation from each other in this dried out husk of society.

No, not good art at all. But she expressed herself. Granted, she could have chose to be more creative, but meh. A highschooler, I won't ask for much.

It's quite possible the display wasn't based on anti-Americanism you know.

Since art no longer has any specified meaning to distinguish it from non-art, it ceased to be meaningful as a word. Therefore, it is and isn't art, but should not be called either. :palm:

I don't see the problem with it.

I am of the personal opinion that art should stand on its own when depicting something. If you look at, say, this:
Image
it's fairly obvious what it is supposed to represent. However, the student had to explain what the flag's meaning was (the erosion of the American dream), and until they said that I didn't think that was what it meant.

Ergo, I don't consider it art, but I don't see what all the fuss is about either.

I do plan to burn a flag on July 4th. I may even film it and post it to youtube. It should be a reminder that it is an action that harms no one, and that any laws that abridge a person's right to use his property as he sees fit in a manner that harms no one else should be considered tyranny. Soldiers supposedly fight for freedom, right? It's a just friggin' piece of cloth, people!
The Empire of Pretantia wrote:[...] TLDR; welcome to the internet. Bicker or GTFO.
"Why is self-control, autonomy, such a threat to authority? Because the person who controls himself, who is his own master, has no need for an authority to be his master. This, then, renders authority unemployed. What is he to do if he cannot control others? To be sure, he could mind his own business. But that is a fatuous answer, for those who are satisfied to mind their own business do not aspire to become authorities." ~ Thomas Szasz

Yes. That is clearly the very thing represented in this picture. :palm:

No genius is required for art. I've already said that. Art just has to stand for something, without the artist explaining it.

What I think is funny is that most of the pissed-off vets are Vietnam vets, and they're bitching about how they defended America.

My question is how did killing people 9,000 miles away defend America?
