Roadside Religion

Postby Daynor » Wed Jul 01, 2009 6:22 pm

This pissed me off, and I want to vent, anyone seen something like this? What are your thoughts?

I'm driving down the road, and across from this Christian book store there are people standing on the curb (the median) and they were holding neon color signs waving them back and forth that said stuff like "Jesus loves you!" "You are never alone!" and some were dressed like Jesus there was one dressed like a cow. This was very very distracting, and I almost ran into the car next to me, I realize that this would have been my fault, but why the hell is it legal for people to DISTRACT drivers? That is their goal!! Using my cell phone while driving is soooo distracting it has been banned here, but Jesus dancing with a cow? That's not distracting!!! Fact is I can drive and talk on my phone, but when a holy cow is dancing in the middle of the road, it's a little bit tooo much.

Who the heck is converted to Christianity via roadside Jesus anyway? I mean I'm not mad just because it was a Christian sign, ANYONE trying to distract drivers should be tased and drug off the road, but, it did make it more pointless.

They should have used a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man. Nothing brings in the business like one of those.

Cool story bro.

Actually it is about as distracting as bill boards or even people doing stupid shit on the side of the road. Perhaps we should ban these too.

Yeah, if we ban cell phones for taking eyes off road, then so should bill boards. Bill boards arn't as extreme distractions, but distractions just the same.

If that is your view point then fair enough, but then I would say it is up to the driver not to be distracted by what other people are doing.

Ahhh, Touchdown Jesus. My parents live on two points that define a line segment which the Football Jesus bisects. It's horribly tacky in person.

I'm not much of a fan of roadside attention-grabbers, but the counter argument is that if you can ignore billboards, you can ignore Jesus dancing with a cow. It's still dangerous, though, and those people should be told the risks of what they're doing in terms that will lead them to agree that stopping is a good thing ("You're distracting people on the road and if they get into a crash and die, they'll die unsaved. Unsaved because of you. Do you think God won't find some problem with their Hell-bound blood being on your souls?").

See I don't have them as much as a problem since I ignore them as equally as I ignore squeegee people and mascots that are on the side of the road.

Well, there is one pretty famous guy who was converted after a distraction made him drive off the road.

He doesn't count, there was no cars back then.

I can see where Daynor coming from. I mean if you have a crash, are you really going to thank Jesus or Yahweh for the sign waving idiots?

Well you see if you were already a Christian then you wouldn't have been distracted and you would never have crashed.

Just Gods way of punishing you I suppose. :p

Actually, I believe my country had a lawsuit that resulted in a certain very revealing lingerie billboard to be taken down from that one spot right at a heavy traffic intersection because it was causing too many accidents.

Yeah. I can't find it with a quick Google search, so maybe it's just urban legend, but FWIW..
