When I had a slingshot, I took that thing everywhere. School, family outings, wherever.
People get bored on a ship. Maybe they shot marbles at birds or whatever to kill some time.

Chairs also weren't shown yet they were used in the attack. The soldiers were shot at during the attack, I'm not saying that there were any guns in the cargo they were transporting, however.

Regarding your claims (and numerous claims of other pro-Israelian posters here) there were "handguns" on board; while there´s no law that makes it illegal to carry a slingshot. Besides, counting about 600 passengers, those slingshots are not quite many...
Not everything someone is carrying on a humanitarian mission must be for "humanitarian purposes", you know ? I, for myself, used to carry a pistol and a sharp three-foot-knife when driving to Romania or Bulgaria or somewhere else on the balcane on humanitarian missions almost a twenty years ago...(obviously for self-defense and self-protection, someone might imagine)

Maybe it is the kanjar though the wiki article just shows a knife in its scabbard and the knife in the video doesn't look like something that would fit into the scabbard in the picture. Also the article says

then it just states one of the uses. However, I'm fairly certain you could easily kill someone with that dagger. Also you seem to be avoiding the slingshots. Why did this humanitarian ship have slingshots?

From my reading on this:

The supply ship attempted to run a legally announced blockade, despite being invited to pass through an Israeli port for inspection. They were intercepted, and a firefight occurred between the boarding team and the aid crew. Several of the crew died (which is what you'd expect in a fight between activists and a military boarding team). Both sides are accusing the other of firing first, neither has released any evidence therof.

I can't say I see any wrong on the Israeli side, unless they fired first. Security cordons are not things put in place lightly, nor unless you are willing to enforce them; attempting to run one in a cargo ship is unbelievably stupid. Unless you're only doing it in order to create a political incident, of course.

Maybe it is the kanjar though the wiki article just shows a knife in its scabbard and the knife in the video doesn't look like something that would fit into the scabbard in the picture.

And what is the use in trying to ban the import of slingshots? You can make one with scrap metal or wood, and the inner-tube from a tyre.

Knives are a defensive weapon in that you can run away from a knife, and stand some chance against it using an improvised weapon like a chair. You have to be within arm's reach to use it. It's no use for attacking Israel with ... you'd be lucky to kill one person before being killed yourself. Surely you can see several ways in which a knife is more legitimately a defensive weapon than a gun is.

The picture you posted was of an antique dagger, btw. Even if it was intended for someone in Gaza it would be far more likely intended as a sentimental gift ...
