Memorial Day

Postby Imsogone » Sun May 30, 2010 4:00 pm

Memorial Day weekend, in the US, is a day for barbecues and family outings. It's also supposed to be a day to remember. Who do you remember on Memorial Day?

I remember my Mother, who died 3 1/2 years ago at the age of 91. She was a WWII Navy veteran.
I remember my daughter Cristin who died 36 years ago at the age of three months. She never had a chance to be a veteran of anything.
I remember my Father, who died 23 years ago at the age of 72. He was a WWII Navy veteran.

There are others, but I guess these are the top three.

I remember damning my life to this job, which I spent the entire weekend at, with little time for sleep, >_>

And I suppose, soldiers and all that...

I remember when it was a full holiday.

It seems to have fallen like the others as many stores, etc., are open that day.....

The soldiers don't have a choice in most cases, you idiot. Besides draft, if you joined reserves, you're at risk for being sent into another country and being forced to kill who ever may be dangerous. If you want to blame someone, blame the government.

Or, in the case of the United States, blame the soldiers anyway, since it's an all-volunteer army.

Whoops.

Rofl, don't kid yourself. Most American soldiers in the 20th century were drafted. They didn't "fight and die so [people] could have the freedom to say things like that." They fought because it was against the law NOT to serve, and if they didn't they'd get court martialed/imprisoned. Not to mention that it's only been more than 50 years since segregation ended, both militarily and state-side.
