Which was a revenge for their firebombings of… Let me take a look… Warsaw, a shitload of British cities and towns, a lot of Russian towns and cities, etc. And it did held a helload of important military targets which did made it a legitimate military target. Furthermore, it was commonplace for the allies to drop leaflets warning about the possibility of an air raid so although it was a cruelty it was a necessary and completely needed one. And no it wasn’t bombed after the end of the war stop using Slaughterhouse 5 as a legitimate source this thing had literal aliens in it bruv

And you do realize that this plan would result in more people dying counting only military casualties than the first half of all combat on the Eastern Front combined? Reminder: not only was Dresden 100% militarily justified (and to argue otherwise is to be duped by Soviet propaganda), but the Soviet-occupied eastern region of the FRG is still infested with Nazis. De-Nazification evidently didn’t go far enough. The only acceptable forms of Nazism and Stalinism are smoking craters.

Your knowledge is wrong. Google Operation Downfall and it’s japanese counterpart- Operation Ketsu-Go. The Japanese due to their extremely nationalistic culture and society being stratified to the limit would not surrender but rather literally starve their population to death. A blockade would not work as well, the resulting famine probably killing more people than the two nukes. You have to also remember that the Kamikaze, although initially ineffective, were slowly becoming more and more deadly. While there were idiotic tactics like there stupid suicide boats which have killed many more Japanese than Americans, there were some things which were extremely effective, such as the Ohka. They were working on more improved versions of it and the US fleet blockading Japan would bring them in range (maybe) of land-based Ohka’s, which were literally unstoppable for WW2 AAA (save for pilot error which considering the level of training is probably the single most dangerous thing for em)

Starving Japan out would have required public support for many more (completely avoidable) years of war, which is not something you want to rely on when the consequences of voters getting bored is restarting the Pacific Theater. Though we’re apparently not concerned about the morality of creating a massive famine, it would extremely politically risky and pose a big price tag for little benefit at all.
