I missed your point here. I can't understand what you are referring to by using "can"

Unlike you, I can think of countries with policemen trained enough to avoid resorting to lethal force to manage the terrible threats such as those posed by grannies with steak knives and walking frames.

I'm totally sure that a "history" of her hurting other people totally warrants an electrocution on the spot.

Does anyone care what I have to say? I have tried my best to try to give my own fair assessment of the situation from the perspective of a relative a dimentia patient and a resident of the jusridiction where it it occured, so it would be nice if someone would at least acknowledge it

The poor old lady is being given end of life care.

I can understand that it's hard to keep an eye on everyone and shit happens, which is why I am forgiving to falls and other stuff happening, as long as the patient is safe if they fall. My grandmother is in a nursing home, and I know how hard it is to keep an eye on all the patients, so I can forgive them when shit happens. However, think what had to happen here. A 95 year old lady was able to access the kitchen without anyone noticing and/or no body stopping her, and not only did she enter the kitchen but they left the knives within her reach. So either the kitchen was unattended and they left the knives within her reach, or it was attended and she entered and grabbed a knife without anyone noticing, or she entered, they noticed her and didn't stop her. Either way, negligence

No it isn't. The police isn't supposed to police itself. The judiciary or ANOTHER police force should do that.

She’s still the responsible officer. She should watch regardless of wether or not she’s in charge of final disposition of the incident. She has operational control of her officers behavior after all.

Still this really highlights one of the major problems with modern police, though it is impossible to say out loud.

When I was undergoing self defense training, our instructor - a retired police officer - beat it into our heads that we should always vary the level of force we are prepared to use depending on context. We actually discussed a scenario where an extremely elderly person - perhaps with dementia - was attempting to assault us, both with and without a weapon. Some people were in favor of using force, some were not; consensus seemed to be nearly all of us are much stronger than a 90+ year old pensioner, and could use minimal force to prevent them from harming ourselves or others without actually injuring them.
